• Hi

Following a few conversations about repairing Ergos on the forums I'm currently looking at producing a run of the now discontinued G-spring carriers that fit the 1st gen (pointy hood) Ergo levers. (Part EC-RE011) this is the circular metal ring which the g springs sit in and which eventually wears out resulting in bad shifting

I intend to get a few initial samples made, is anyone interested in testing them for me? It would involve disassembly and reassembly of the shifters to install them .

Also if you would be interested in purchasing them in the future please let me know so I can gauge interest

Finally if anyone has any unwanted 1st gen shifters in any cosmetic condition let me know as I could use them for testing myself !

    Cheers

    Peter

  • I'd be interested in buying a pair - my future will probably feature some 8 speed Record Ti shifters.

  • Cool thanks @danstuff . I have to admit I've been a bit busy recently so project has been on hold... I've also misplaced my prototypes ! But will let you know if it gets sorted , I've just bought an 8 speed groupset myself so will try and get some testing done if I'm brave enough to open the shifters !

  • ...if I'm brave enough to open the shifters !

If memory serves, the central screw is a left-hand thread... sometimes.

I'm sure it's marked in some way, possibly with something obvious like "L".

I'll UTFS, as I got this info on here when I was stumped.

  • This looks to be a pretty good guide for mk2 shifters, not sure how applicable it is to mk 1, need to look at the exploded diagrams ...

Obviously it was in my "Ergo service" thread: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/9833825/

  • Looks good for first generation Ergo too: the business card trick is very neat!

  • We are lucky.. :) http://www.wheeldoctor.hu actually has those RE-011 clips stocked&piled up, but they advised that even RE-111 unit can be made to fit with a little bit of mahining.

My ergo o the right will need some service, because since an accident last year, when I fall onto it and tore the thumbie shifter, it's action is very soft, even after G-spring replacement..

definitely will keep following this thread! :)

Yeah, I have to agree: clicking on, er... "Click here to read the full conversation." is a real ballache.

Actually, er... no I don't: I linked to that one, specific post because it related to the one, specific issue I raised (the central screw).
