In the warmer months I usually avoid most of the canal path promuter antics by going up Sumner Road

To hijack this thread slightly, my GF is thinking about taking up cycling to work. She is based on Theobald's Road and needs to find a safe route south west to head toward Trafalgar Square and then along Millbank.
Any suggestions? Most of the roads around there seem really busy for a new cyclist (think High Holborn) or one way.
Cheers

My commute brings me past Nunhead station and I usually head down Hollydale and past St Thomas the Apostle College, over Queens Rd and up Asylum Rd to the OKR. At Bricklayers Arms take the old Dover Road, over Borough and then across Southwark Bridge. Left and then right up New Change, Newgate and Holborn Viaduct. But I vary my route to suit traffic and mood.
New job means I'm commuting between Chancery Lane and Peckham Rye. Been doing pretty much the 63 bus route (cutting through Surrey Canal path at the Peckham end) - do any of you commute between the two and would you care to share your route?
