Single speed help needed!

Hey guys,

Firstly I apologise if this has already been asked, and I am sure that it has, but I have been trawling the forums and can't find the answer. If it has been asked it would be fantastic if someone could point me in the right direction...

I'm a commuter and ride about 7 miles to work each way every day. Recently spent a fortune on getting my bike serviced only to ruin all the hard work they had done the next day in the rain... So I am looking for a single speed bike to ride when it is wet, and also to be used as at the weekends as a pub bike/something not as expensive to leave locked up to a lamp post...

I am looking to spend around £200 maximum and have seen a plethora of options on Gumtree, however I really have no idea about older, vintage bikes. Is there any models you could suggest and perhaps models I should avoid? Any links to any suggestions would be fab. 6ft tall.

There seems to be an awful lot in my price range. But I am sure a lot of it is utter tosh...

Charge plug(s), Genesis Day One / flyer or an One-on , pompino would all be in or around that price braket second hand and a good starter bikes with reasonable components and the frame are worth upgrading when required. Why not check out the forum classified ads.

If your going to be riding singlespeed rather than fixed please make sure it has a front and a rear brake :)
