We had a giggle over your advice around lunchtime ;-)

• #4
You've always been a baggy shorts man...
-
• #5
Needs 105 with cx chainset
-
• #6
Well glad you agreed with the 'take a punt' bit

Any nice chainring ideas for double or single at the front with 9 speed 12-28?
-
• #8
9 speed? why?
-
• #9
Nice! See you in Epping Forest :-)
-

Try the Superstar narrow-wide and let us know how you get on :)

I'd recommend the Absolute Black single chainring. I've been riding mine for the past couple of weeks and, despite some very sticky conditions, it hasn't missed a beat.
It's quite a revelation to see how much mud build-up is caused by the front mech, i.e. once you remove it the drivetrain stays completely clear around the cranks and BB.

At that price it's got to be with a punt.
-
• #13
110 crank so not going to work?
-
• #15
Was thinking the mud and front mech as well but how about 42/27 as the lowest gear when 34/27 is my favourite?
-
• #16
Get a 38 tooth one for a start.
Then do some training.

• #18
Hah yeah - Road --> Drivetrain --> Chainrings
But you have to click the picture of some actual road chainrings.
Do they even usability?
-
• #19
They look nice.

Will need a 10 speed chain and have to fit the short cage Dura Ace rear.
-
• #21
short cage? Surely you want a medium or long cage for 1x10?
-
• #22
No. Short cage mechs have the capacity to take up the chain slack even when using silly MTB cassettes.
You just need to make sure the mech has tooth capacity for the largest sprocket.
-
• #23
That frameset is sweeeeet. Following with interest
-
• #24
Modern short cages derailleur can handle up to 28t sprocket, but with some fiddling, 32t is a possibility.

Is not shortening the cassette help reduced chain jump?
Scandium, Edge Fork. Really like the frameset and always was looking for a bike to ride in the snow along the River Lee.
