nice drop - strong glutes

maybe want a little bit more slack in chain or itll wear fast but otherwise looks good.

That is a LOT of drop. I'd consider flipping the stem/using compact drops. Just me though. Ditch the valve caps as well!

Are the cranks 165? might just be the pedals falling down and making them look longer..
-
• #6
Really? It's not binding at all. Has about 8-10mm of play. Will that be ok??

Valve caps in the bin "check"
Going to Geoffrey butler now to see if they do a stem that will fit me a bit better. -

Cranks are 170. I couldn't raise the seat any more as the drop is massive so I chose slightly longer cranks. Every little helps 😃

Isn't there normally a stipulation at velodromes that 165mm cranks are te rulez? Or is that just at Manchester?
- edit - Just at Manchester, and apparently they're not that strict about it

Did you already have some hard riding with this set up?
The drop is just too much and the reach seems quite short to be ridden comfortably, I suggest you to get a longer stem and drops with 120-130mm drop, preferably with a longer reach!
Bear in mind I'm just judging from the picture, seems like you might have respiratory restrictions if you ride that on the drops, but then, if you always raced like this and you find yourself comfy, don't read my comment! -

I have only been using it on the rollers at home. I have a 100 and 110mm stem here that I might try with a lift if that's what you think. I do find it very aggressive. What in finding is that when I'm off power my legs are causing me to bump up and down. Any ideas??

Very normal but your legs will improve their firing&timing in 'non-effort-mode' gradually.

What Breso said. Your lungs can't take in enough air with a drop like that and it'll be dangerous on the track as your visibility will be poor. Lots of pros go for long stems with rising stems and short steerers.
There's a fine line between 'aggressive' and 'impractical' when sorting out saddle-bar drop. There's a point where any aero advantage is lost because your endurance is affected by a bad position.
Take this with a pinch of salt, my track knowledge is limited, but I do know that you don't need as much drop as you see on these 'fixed gear bicycles' everyone seems so keen on nowadays. ;)

If I raised the stem height and flipped it over maybe even swap it for a 100mm you think that would make a difference??

Ok cool. Cheers. I have noticed that I can raise my cadence a lot higher than I used to just through roller practice.

There is a good site I was using yesterday: http://yojimg.net/bike/web_tools/stem.php
Elsewhere on the web there's plenty of evidence to support slamming stem and running a positive rise.
The drop on yours looks more severe because the reach is quite short. Even looking at the tops that's quite a lot of drop, as soon as you go down into the drops it looks like you'll be leaning over the front. Obviously, I don't know your physical dimensions but I would suggest trying some longer stems with positive rise that bring the bars up.
It looks like shit on a 'street' bike, but the evidence for it's efficacy is clear in it's use by professionals. Having said that; each to their own, obviously! I'm running a 130mm thomson X4 on my track-only bike, with PRO drops. I may switch to compacts once I've ridden it more at the track (which is closed until the spring).

Swapped over to a positive 110 and raised stem 10mm. I'm going to have a blast on the rollers and see how I get on.
Cheers for all the help btw.

riding on the rollers for half hour seem fine. i will know for sure on tuesday when i get to LVV.
my seat needs to be that high due to long legs.
is there anything i could do to keep the bars that i have?
Finished it the other day. Get to use it at LVV next week. Just looking for any advice on improvements that I can make.
