RobertsDear Chas
Please find attached a couple of photos of a recently acquired 70's TT frame - I originally thought to be by Ron Cooper - I contacted Ron and he said he'd never have stamped a serial# on the rear dropout, and thought it would be worth investigating whether it may be a Roberts.
Many thanks

Aw, shame bud........

A Roberts for 135 quids it's a steal, not a bargain!

^Thanks for the validation - It's never easy to price up vintage kit, especially when it's a bit ratty.
But if you spent £75 on a respray and some decals you'd have something quite special for a shade over £200
and even when they're not that shiny, a Tange BB and ISO Hatta Swan have got to be worth about £30-£40 before fitting -

yeah I know, but I've still got the Bob Jackson to finish and a pre-war Claud Butler that I've not even started on (the one with Brampton headset races from Chris Grange)
-
• #11
you've got pictures of the pre-war Butler? (PM would be fine so we don't clutter this thread)

Wheel Pics:
Sadly it looks like my lucky tubs have finally died...
After being used on my TT lo pro, surviving L'eroica, commuting last summer and then the Mendips Wiggle sportive, they've quietly died in the in-laws garage!

Apologies for the shoddy pics, I'll try and get a better one of the freewheel when there's some daylight to be had

I also took a batch of snaps this morning showing the various bits and bobs.

Story so far:
Engineering101 has dibs on the wheels
saxbys has dibs on brake levers
If I can get a taker for the frame then I'm happy to split. -

Interested in chainset if you split. Can you send me a pm when/if you decide to do so?
-
• #25
Will do, cheers.
It's looking likely that I'll split - I'll confirm at the weekend (or before if someone takes the frame).
@sept. - PM sent re: frame.
Thread closed - sale of remaining parts relocated here
So it's with heavy heart and empty bank account that I offer my 70's Roberts TT-Rat
SPLITTING
Frame:
Chas Roberts custom 531 TT frame with campag ends, Cinelli-esque pierced lugs and the most drilliumed BB in all christendom. The fork is not the original, it's made from Columbus SL but has a period correct Cinelli-Crown and campag ends, so it suits the build.
ST: 55cm c-c
TT: 57cm c-c
Wheelbase: 99cm
Wheels: GP4 rims, Zeus hubs, Maillard 700 Compact (14-19) 6-speed freewheel, Zeus QRs with these dinky red rubber "Milremo" sleeves on the levers.
I'll get some more up-to-date pics with the correct wheels (not the Cosmics in the pictures)
Bearings: Standard hipster issue - Hatta Swan (ISO) headset & Tange ISO BB
Chainset: Ofmega fluted (super record copy) 170mm 144bcd with a mega-drillium chainring (52T)
(Single ring cos there's only cable routing for rear mech - TT bike)
Gears: Dura Ace AX rear mech & Campag Record D/T shifters
(Note: AX mech has one tooth missing on one of it's jockey wheels - it makes no difference to function).
Cockpit: 3TTT Competizione TdF Bars - 39cm wide, wrapped in white Deda perforated tape
These are like vintage compacts, they're only 14cm drop.
The stem is a black 120mm ITM stem I got it from Chris Lilliwhite's Raleigh Banana Team Bike
Chair: I'm selling it with the period-correct saddle seatpost combo - SR "Melt forged" seatpost and Selle Italia Turbo (not the HHSB Inline Post/Concor combo).
Brakes: Universal 66 levers with actual original tan gum hoods, Galli Calipers & black cables (of a fashionable length in my opinion)
