spd crunching

  • I have some Chrome shoes which let you mount a recessed spd cleat. The way they're designed, I assumed they'd be fine to walk around on the street, at work etc. But on some surfaces (esp pavement) there's a lot of crunching from the cleat hitting the ground. Anyone have any way to stop this? e.g. are there any lower profile version of spd cleats?

  • You can get some MTB shoes that have thicker soles but in the end it's not really a big enough issue for me to be bothered with. I find that my cleats usually last as long as the shoes, at which point it's a good time to change.

  • To be honest, it's more just the annoying sound than worried about wearing down the cleat (plus don't know if I'll end up damaging my wood floor at home).

  • Shoes in the house? Tsk.

I have Ritchey cleats on my Kursks and they grind a bit less than the Shimano ones, but they still grind. I fear it's a case of get over it or go to trainers and straps.

  • I found this goes away after about a month or so of use, that was the case for me anyway, on any uneven surfaces (cobblestone etc) it still does it though, haven't had any problems with clipping in or out though, learn to love the noise I guess

  • I have same the same problem with the midways and spds. Have heard time atac cleats are better. The whole atac system is supposed to be better in general
