  • Who's listening or has listened to this?

    http://serialpodcast.org

  • is it any good?

  • It's brilliant.

  • downloading now to listen to in the car

  • Started strong but... Hugely underwhelmed by the end

  • I'm at episode 9, been very interesting so far, worth the time to listen to.

  • I like that it followed it's own trajectory, it didn't have an 'ending' all packaged and ready to go before production. Looking into past crimes and cold cases doesn't always give a satisfying end, but it gives a certain insight instead, of process and the difficulties investigators face.
    I loved it.

  • Agreed. I thought it was truly fascinating to be taken in such a short time through something so detailed with only words.

Will season 2 have anything to do with season 1 or just be a new story?

  • There were some great aspects and overall I found it pretty compelling, but also quite frustrating. There was a fair bit of repetition and whole episodes that felt like filler. The one with the cold-case team in particular was very wooly. I like that it wasn't pre-determined too but I can't gel feel a little deflated at the almost total lack of tangible progress after ten hour long programmes.

  • Thanks for sharing that. I really, really enjoyed it. I'd love to know what actually happened, or at least what the deal with Jay was.

Frustratingly though when they downloaded e8-10 didn't have the same formatting and I have now listened to the last episode before those ones... still I enjoyed it enough to go back to those ones anyway.

I found the evidence aspect fascinating - how you can use things for or against. Also how unreliable peoples accounts can be. I always remember a story from a Ozzy lawyer, where during a lecture at law school the lecturer had organised someone to just walk through the middle of the lecture unannounced.

Afterwards the only thing people could come to a consensus on re a description was that it was a guy and he was wearing blue jeans. It turned out to be a guy, but no blue jeans.

  • New story, as told in the podcasts.

  • Remember that originally there was a great deal of time from making/releasing each program so the review bit was as a reminder.

There was progress and alot of it, not sure how to do spoilers tag...so wont mention it.

  • I really enjoyed it. I liked that it just focused on one topic.

Does anyone listen to other podcasts? This American Life? Radiolab? Start Up? WTF?...

  • The end result is that a massive miscarriage of justice occurred. Even if he did it, what's for sure is that they did not have enough evidence to convict him.

It reminds you how fragile the system of humans judging humans is.

  • The only real conclusion that came out was that: Jay is the only person that knows for sure who murdered Hea. But the fact that he didn't serve any time despite burying her is pretty remarkable.

  • Also I'm hooked on crime podcasts, I've listened to all of Serial, & Criminal in the last 2 weeks, and now I'm on to Sword & Scale .... This is the most interesting episode so far http://swordandscale.com/sword-and-scale-episode-5/

  • I wouldn't say miscarriage of justice but definitely benefit of the doubt.

Scary was the term take the plea bargain, the jurors opinions were interesting..

  • Not sure about jay, his story changed and may have been made to fit. He got off due to the testimony.

  • Without dropping spoilers, did anyone else find the revelation in the final episode worrying. It may be inconsequential to the case, but i found the fact that the fact that this other thing may have been happening at the same time and it was treated so nonchalantly quite disturbing. Maybe i'm just living in a dream world or something.

  • Jay's story is just bonkers.

  • What I've found interesting is how reporting on Reddit has been a veritable goldmine of information (with quackery as well)

  • Jay's story is just bonkers.

I f ound his interview made a lot more sense than the accounts that were related from his various interviews before.

The comments section was very interesting. Most people have clearly picked a side. I'm much more on the fence, but I do think from the information given there was not sufficent evidence to come to a guilty verdict.

  • Season 2 out now!!
