  • so, few months ago i bought this somec promax frame in order to build it with DA 7400. later decided to sell it and again leave it for myself etc. finally, when i saw Breso's pink pinarello with dark campy, i decided to keep somec, take his paint off (frame is all chromed) collect DA 7700 (i think it's the best raplacement for campy due to my constant lack of money) and built millenium roadie.

my goal is chromed f&f with black anodized DA. i'd like to dismantle DA components and have someone to anodize aluminium parts. hope i'll find someone to do it for me.

  • o sie wkurwiłem teraz
    shame about the original paint.

  • O kurwa chyba Cie

  • zzzzz, who cares about original paint? The man's building a full-chrome Somec with black anodised DA7700; we should salut him for his noble and creative intentions.

  • kto zabroni biedakowi ;)

yeah, sorry for the paint, but because it will be mine one and only road bike i'd rather like it a lot. besides disco scheme wasn't so good.

  • Chrome frame will be stunning, I really hope you'll put Somec decals!

  • I was thinking about the red ones from cyclomondo. and columbus max f&f of course.

  • I'd suggest yellow... on the chrome you might need a bright colour to don't make the decals disappear on the confusion of reflections!
If only it was a flashy red!

Look at this dark blue example:

  • and look at the effect of yellow on the front:

  • here's a decent chrome build with a yellow and black vibe for inspiration:

  • hmm, suppose you're right. there's time to think about it.

nice passoni also, i just don't know if i like yellow. maybe i'll build it first and then decide.

  • Hope it's "show" chrome underneath the paint.

I stripped an Olagnero, only to find that the chrome was not to the same standard all over.

The rear triangle (which was originally on show) was much brighter than the chrome on the rest of the frame: the original preparation wasn't the same, so there was nothing that could be done about it.

  • "i'd like to dismantle DA components" that's not going to be easy. For example the 7700 rear mech pivots on the parallelogram are a hardened steel pin riveted in by machine .. yes they can be drilled out with a lot of care but you then need to design a means to fix it all back together again.

If I may be so bold?! I'd use Campagnolo .. easier to take apart, looks good on classic frames and if you ebay and are patient, groupsets can be assembled relatively cheaply from 2nd hand parts bought with a few scratches .. you'll need to polish the part as preparation for anodising so a scratch is not cause for concern.

  • all chromed, confirmed. chrome from underneath paint is rugged, there are also some spots of rust on it near bb shell.

thanks @Oswald i'll think about it. because of derailleurs cable routing inside tubes, shifting sti levers are quite useless. i'll consider group later, but most likely it will be 7700 because i have most of it already.

  • so that's how it look's at the moment. tomorrow i will polish it a bit and clear coat thin layer. there are some spots where rust came out last night. i wonder how will react tonight without chemicals on it.

  • Oh dear

  • That's what I was referring to earlier: compare the chrome that was on show originally, with chrome that was under the paint.

That won't polish to a shine I'm afraid: it's dull because of the preparation before it was chromed.

  • How to fuck up a good frame. The manual.

  • If its consistently none show chrome the frame will still look pretty nice with all black parts.

  • That second post made me cringe, true story.

Bad call on removing the original paint. Disco paint is something one should embrace as a Somec owner.

  • How to ruin a classic :(

  • Guys come on, it was a not-very-special-and-ruined Somec paint scheme, not a Caravaggio.
I'm not saying that now is better, but I just hope that after realising there was no chrome at all under the paint, the restoration won't be limited to a clear coat layer.

@osiem.co are you planning to leave it raw? Say no please.... :(

  • Ok ok, but it did have character at least.

@osiem.co looking forward to the new paint :)
