Albright-Know Art Gallery, [Buffalo, Ny]. 1991. () Very good condition. Original artists book consisting of a cardboard box (7.75" X 6" X 0.5") containing 12 pencils, each printed in red metallic ink with one of 6 "truisms."
You are trapped on the earth so you will explode
What urge will save us now that sex won’t?
Men don’t protect you anymore
The beginning of the war will be secret
The future is stupid
Protect me from what I want
Pencils cradled in a folding, accordion-style piece of cardboard. Title of artwork printed on side of box in black ink. Corners of box slightly worn, one small tear at corner. One pencil (Men don’t protect you anymore) has imperfection causing the words to be only partially printed (a common problem with this set), else all pencils unsharpened and unused.
Jenny Holzer (b. 1950) is a conceptual artist interested in using language in the public sphere and on every day objects to challenge viewers to think about his / her position in society. Her art has been exhibited extensively and is held in major collections around the world, including the Guggenheim, Stuart Collection of public art on the campus of the University of California, the Hamburger Kunsthalle, and many others. An uncommon artists book issue by the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY.
