Very very clean condition BJ 853 audax, 56cm c to c, square, finished in a smart Gios blue. Usual top end frame details: Cinelli 'Intercooler' bottom bracket, double bottle bosses, four point rack fixings and investment cast, shot in seat lug.

This is full 853, unlike many contemporary frames like Genesis ect, which have 725 rear triangle. This can add up to 350gr to the finished frame.

In this spec and finish the frame retails at £850 off the peg from BJ. This was a custom build frame. Ultegra 10 gear train and chain set. Brand new 105 cassette and chain, Deda bars/stem/tape and Tiagra 10 levers/cables workshop fitted last weekend (£260). Flite saddle, Mavic Kysirium SSC clinchers, conti tyres.

Only selling to buy a brand new BJ 953!

This bike is tremendously responsive and light (18lbs), AND all day comfort. Build cost over £2000.

    Looking for £930.

    Reduced to £900

  • Pukka nice BJ. PM sent

  • Hi there..the fork is 1'' or 1 1/8''?

  • It's 1 inch as the current version is.

  • Bike reduced to £900, roughly the price of a new BJ 'off the peg' 853 frame and headset :)

  • Looking at a Reynolds 631 version of this BJ audax on eBay (£1300!!!), what would you say were the differences in tubing and ride?

  • 631 I think is the new 531.
853 is a lighter (not necessarily better!) tubing than 631. Well, 853 is stronger than 631 and should weight the same, but because 853 is stronger, theoretically, one can build a lighter 853 frame that is higher than a 631 with same strength.

So it actually depends on the frame and how the builder felt about it.

Is this the one you were looking at? Straight off, the wheels at quite a bit more budget and the groupset is heavier than Ultegra for sure.

As for ride ect 853 vs 631, I've ridden both - the 853 has got a lot more 'zip' certainly, because it's stiffer torsionally and lighter, and I'd say more confident and comfortable than 631, which tends to knock you about a bit over the distance.

That's about it. And my 853 is £450 cheaper :)

  • My 631 Bob Jackson doesn't knock me about at all, he's the perfect gentleman. He's not the lightest of fellows though, admittedly.
    GLWS.

  • Well do one really need lightness ? Unless racing, I don't think so.

And even there, I think stiffness is more important.

  • Surely love is the over-arching sentiment to ensure a good BJ?

  • A certain amount of skill in the execution is desirable, BJ has a reputation to keep :)

  • Final reduction to £850. Leave it here for a week and then it goes up fleabay at £1k fixed price.

  • Shove it up yer bollocks

  • That's a good price for someone. If this was a 58cm I'd be all over it. Priced one of these at the Leeds shop and getting no change out of £900 for the 853 frame/forks with flamboyant paint finish.

  • If you want top money for your bike ( and rarely do bikes go for £930 on here), then you should at least give it a clean!
