Vienna

  • Spending a couple of nights there next week.
Things to do? Things to eat? Things to Drink? Things to avoid?

    Thanks.

  • i should know, because i live there but i guess it depends on what you like...
it may be not the best time to visit because it's cold and dark, but still a great place.
if you want to know anything in particular, i will try to help.

  • Some very outdated suggestions from my time there:

    Things to do?

Walk around lots - the architecture is amazing, even if the Hofburg-type pompous imperial style is not your thing.

If there is still a bar in the 8th district called Chelsea (it used to be in Piaristengasse) do try a visit. Used to be run by a chap called Othmar, former footballer. Café Cem for the end of a night out.

    Things to eat?
    Grilled kaesekrainer sausage.

    Things to Drink?
    Ottakringer Bock
    Sturm

    Things to avoid?
    Too much Sturm

Would love to go back. Lots of lovely people.

  • Hopefully going out in April and currently perusing Air BnB - where should we be looking to stay?

  • Bumping this because I'm visiting Vienna in a couple of weeks.

What's it like to ride around Vienna? Any recommendations for bicycle hire? Anywhere I can rent a sweet fixehbiek?

  • try to contact this guys

was in vienna some years ago and liked it a lot.
would have been nice to ride there.

good vegan food, some good record stores as well, think it was wien "neubau".
    black monk, substance...

  • I realise I never replied to this thread after visiting Vienna.

I should have, particularly to give a MASSIVE shout out to the dude at Radplatz for hooking me up with a fixed gear gravel monster type thing which was a ton of fun to ride around. He also offered me his super tarcky Dosnoventa but my legs be no long :(

Vienna is pretty good to ride around. Bike lanes on pretty much every street, but sometimes they are a bit narrow, two way, and some junctions are super confusing to navigate. Got shouted at by other cyclists a couple of times.

  • Only just saw this post but if you are visiting Bikekitchen Vienna http://www.bikekitchen.net/index.php/English_description is a great place to visit. If they ask say Adam sent you.
