I choose my team as 13, but there was no 15 to select?
Oh ignore me, I get it. -

Great work chukss

Yeah, I used the voting template from last year when we had 15 teams. Forgot to update to 13 teams. Everyone figured it out.

Bourgies and Jokes are supposed to be listed as joint 6th, but auto formatting wouldn't do that.
Jokes: Any chance you can play this Thurs?

so there are 6 teams in league A and 7 in B. means one of the 2 6th placed teams goes into league B? wouldn't it be better both of them go to league A - which would have 7 teams then?

Correct. This was not an easy call. Maybe we got it wrong, but below is our reasoning. I will note that our m-comm was divided: Max and I for how it went, Ben for a 7/6 split. We are happy to hear if others disagree. If there is a strong opinion that it should have gone 7/6, then we'll take that into account next year.
There five teams who are very closely ranked (Spikes, Bourgies, Jokes, Westway and Clerks). This happened last year too: a very tight mid-table who had to be split. We decided then that the odd team (number 8 out of 15) should go into Division B rather than A, for a 7/8 split. The reasoning was that having more closely-ranked teams in Div B would make that division more exciting for all of them -- a real fight for first place of Div B. The action in Div A would already by exciting.
Since we made that decision last year, we decided -- before the vote -- use the same logic. That would mean a 6/7 split. But the tie screws that up.
We decided that going with a 7/6 split would go against that principle and it would leave two closely ranked teams (Westway and Clerks) to play a bunch of much lower ranked teams. A 5/8 split would be too few in Div A.

(Reminder to everyone that after three years of the league having been run completely democratically, with endless votes over every single decision, there was a consensus to hand the league over to a m-comm to make decisions quickly.)

I think chukkers reasoning makes perfect sense and worked quite well last year, therefore its a good idea to keep it. And the proposed solution to solve the ties I think that make sense if they can organise a game quickly ...

I agree the logic is pretty good for something that has so many angles and is so complicated.
Out of interest wouldn't including the vote if the person who didn't put their own team last fix the draw (as it would be impossible for them to give both teams the same vote)?
So if you just move their team to last spot and move their other votes...
But i guess it's too late now...

Good point, Louis. But I wasn't going to recalibrate the votes of people who couldn't follow the rules.
In any case, s/he ranked the tied teams in question at 6 and 7, so scores would have been:
Much Jokes (135)
La Haute Bourgeoisie (136)Still effectively a tie, no?

Louis that vote was discounted before the analysis was done and it was unanimous. I notified them that they needed to correct their vote 2 days before the voting finished and they didn't do it. Other people who voted wrong did correct their votes. If they can't vote properly then that's their issue....

hahaha. Playoffs are tight! And I think it will be a super fun way to start the league if we can get our acts together quickly. Plus we don't mind fighting our way into the A League. ;)

Ha! Good point Danielle, and awesome attitude... I hope you go down so we get to play you and not grumpy Ben! ;-p

Hi Chukker, Max and Ben, thank you for organising the winter league and all the hard work with voting.
I didn't know the voting rules had been updated. Would you mind to recalibrate my vote since you had to deal with correction votes from other people too?
Sorry that I didn't get your message that you have changed the rules for voting half way through.
By the way who is gonna deal with keeping the table and stats this year. Would like to help on that front!

I'm so down for this play off match. will be a good way to start the league for sure. only problem is in away Monday - friday next week so and only really free for a match this Sunday or next weekend!
-
• #23
@Vit the voting rules weren't updated halfway through, they were the same throughout and the only two people that got it wrong and voted their own team high up were on your team (all of whom voted identically, though one was able to get it right first time).
Anyway the deadline has passed and the decision is made and everyone seems ok with it.
Kev said he wanted to run the table and I think chukker might want to be involved too so chat to them about it.

...
OP:
23 people voted. One vote was discounted because the person failed to follow the directions and rank his/her own team at 13.
Out of 22 votes, here is the ranking of teams (number of votes * ranking):
There is a tie for sixth place. Going on league tradition, the split will be:
6 teams Division A
7 teams Division B
Rather than going 7/6 or 5/8, there will be a #preseasonplayoff between La Haute Bourgeoisie and Much Jokes. It will be a regular match according to the League VII format (three 15- minute games).
Hopefully these two teams can coordinate to play within the next week so regular season can begin on 1 Nov.
The decision on split and playoff has been made but we are happy to talk about the voting and tallying process here if anyone has any questions.
