• I recently picked up an Atala dating to around 1981. I know its a mid level bike from the Atala range as it's not got Atala in the crown of the forks or on the seat stays. It the same basic design as there lower level bikes, but with nicer lug work and Columbus stickers instead of the high tensile stickers.

Did Itailian road bikes in the late 70's/ early 80's come with Columbus tubing that takes around a 26mm seatpost? I ask because it didn't come with a post and from what I can gather without a set of verniors, it looks to be 26mm give or take 0.2mm. Although with my limited knowledge of tubing I thought only low end frames with low spec tubing came with small seat tube diameters.

    Cheers Andy

  • Low end Columbus tubing of that era would have been Columbus Zeta.
That could have been been 26.4 but not less than that.

  • columbus gara, 26.6, on my gitane track frame..its all that springs to mind just now...
