Bike recommendations for girlfriend

Hi everyone, was wondering if I could get a little help as I've been trying to help my mrs find a new/used single speed for pottering about to university/town on. She would need a 48/49cm frame I think and would prefer singlespeed/freewheel over fixed gear, have about £500 ish to spend.

The only options i've come across in terms of normal geo bikes (rather than your typical upright heavy ladies bikes) are the likes of state,foffa,mango,tokyobikes etc. however i've heard most of these are overpriced or shit (please correct me if i'm wrong though), don't really want to buy something anti.

Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions/recommendations they could throw my way, I ride a pre cursa and something which is cheap and cheerful like that would be perfect.

Buy a frame from classifieds here and build something up. You can build a pretty tidy bike for £500 if you're careful.

If you're doing that, looking at mixte/dropped toptube frame will probably open up more options to you, in terms of being able to get a slightly larger frame but still have standover clearance.

When I was building my gf a bike I was looking for a similar sized road frame and finding nothing worthwhile, I ended up getting her a ladies Trek frame that I think is around 50cm. The seat is slammed but there's plenty standover and the length is better.
