Dredge.
You can adjust the position of the lever fore and aft. It may be that the adjustment system has gone wrong in your leaver and the lever has drooped. See step 6 in this chart.

My left hand double did exactly the same thing. I think I initially forced it against the mech whilst the mech was on its stop screw. Its now permanently about 10 out. It still shifts ok I think, so I just live with it. Very odd.

Um my right hand shifter had got a bit sluggish recently and failing yo return as above.
I investigated a little - took the hood off and had a look at the ratchets etc. The whole thing was full of black gloop - a combination of grease, sweat from turbo sessions and road dirt. Cleaned it up with gt85, lubricated with mineral oil and it's working perfectly again. -

Apparently the black goop is partly rubber and partly carbon from the paddle rubbing the hood each time you shift.

Ah
Hi all,
recently purchased a second hand set of SRAM red 2011 levers which I was very happy with until last week.
The right hand paddle has moved toward the bar about 10mm and it still shifts but it just feels sluggish and doesn't quite have the satisfying clank that the shifters used to.
As you can see from the pictures it doesn't sit flush with the brake lever. Please excuse my discusting hands, I went mtbing at the weekend and it's thrashed them.
How easy are sram shifters to repair and what could this likely be?
