Is this the beginning of the end? As Christianity was for the last millennia with the crusades and the brutality of conversion are we now in the millennia of Islam?

I feel personally hurt by the beheading of James Foley especially considering the executioner was a radicalised Briton.

i think the plan all along was to get all the jihadis in the middle east and they can kill each others or get killed by the israelis - who were funding these small groups of jihadis alongside CIA ,turkey and saudi arabia these small groups like al nusra front became IS .same problem happened in afghansitan when USA funded mujahadeen. we are in league with the devil (saudi arabia)

That said, yeah it's going to be difficult to put IS back in the box, given that, you know, we massively destabilised the whole region during the 2003 Iraq War, and now there's pretty much inevitably going to be a fairly messy recalibration of the political and ethnic hierarchies in that general area. Don't think there's much cause for concern about a global caliphate though.
