baptism of fire on the faux pas front. Drinks and rides are both a good shout.
Some of my best London living memories are on LFGSS rides. -

Some riders have beards?
I joined in by going on the St. Paul's ride through the city at night. Great fun, everyone was really nice, no-one said "brakes are death" or anything.

You are getting off lightly, perhaps the new more friendly interface has affected people here...

Find a drinks I the social forum or sign up for a ride. Howard is running an ice cream themed ride which would be a good place to start...

I just found learning to hate my oyster card and so make my bike the only way to travel made everything awesome. Even the most dull time shopping is sandwiched by 2 awesome little rides(even tho they are solo).
Maybe also worth grabbing some of the freebie cycle maps from tfl. Be warned they are a few years old now and need a reprint in some areas(tottehnam court road station mess is all post print I think). They hand them out in a little office in the middle of victoria station too.

See you around at the drinks/rides/spotted thread.

I've never been on a ride either i'm pretty new myself, been riding fixed for around four years completed my first build recently too.
Anyway what about a newbie ride, where all the new members get together and go for a ride? -
• #21
That is an excellent idea! Go to the rides and races and set one up.
-
• #22
Is there an uncut steerer demand for participation?
-
• #23
a newbie ride would be a great idea

don't see why a distinction should be made between new and old, They will be meeting new people regardless, but will probably have a less experienced route setter, and at the end of it wont know what a forum ride is like! Not to discourage it, I just feel they should simply create or join a more general forum ride instead

Used to be occasional noob beers ride (http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/141592/) meeting at Trafalgar. A good introduction/indoctrination to the forum values:
ride a bike
drink beer
ride a bike
I just joined in the attempt to find some like-minded souls to cycle with over the weekends or of an evening.
I have a couple of fixies, neither particularly impressive (an old 64' Claude Butler and some heavy piece of crap I got off gumtree and am slowly rebuilding) I cycle 6 miles to work a few days a week and am looking for a way to dive a little deeper - ideally to find a regular crew to ride and develop with (does the 'develop' bit sound creepy?).
Anyway, be good to hear your thoughts on the best ways to get involved.
