• wonder how much it would cost for the frame in this thread to be re-painted to a high-standard..

.. any quotes - with examples of previous work?

there's a classic Peugeot bicycle in a shop-window on Store Street which recollect cost £300 or so to re-paint (!!!), so offers (way) below that would be of interest..

    to restoration,

    h .

  • Try Mario Vaz. Here's the thread with reviews and samples
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread102006.html

  • Skilled yes but not so high standard I might add. If you want to pay more merciancycles or Argos cycles do it best

  • argos bristol
check the thread about a gazelle that got repainted
it'a an old thread i cannot find

  • details of a vaz respray here
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread14817.html

  • Check out No Quarter bikes - their paint jobs look fucking PIMP!

  • Have a look at my Gios Torino on the Gios appreciation thread,
which I finished a few weeks ago.

now have a guess at the cost?

  • Looks neat! £80?

  • £80 , well that would just about cover the cost of primer, top coat,
    clear coat and decals.

    How about the rest?

  • ^^you asked to guess. You tell me!

Now you guess the cost? You guessed right, £75!

  • You put down Mario for a price of £75+... fair enough...
how much does Argos cost?? Very interested to know the price...

Mario's a very very nice man.

Don't go for the Hither Green "Self-Chipping" option.

    Flam finishes last better.

Research the decals and make sure you show him exactly want you want.

Don't get him to pack and post.

If you want an amazing job go to Argos.

  • I am just pointing out that £80 was the cost of the Painting materials alone... does not cover Paint stripper, emery cloth, rust treatment, hand tools such as metal files etc, wet and dry paper,
cutting compound , polish, tack cloths, good compressor , iwata LVLP and iwata normal spray guns, hoses, moisture filters , resperator , gloves etc.

Skill to use all of the above so as to apply the paint and get a top finish.

Most of all you need hour and hours of labor.

So how Mario makes enough money to live on is beyond me.

  • Ditto! I couldn't agree more! For £75+ to put down MARIO I think is unfair in my opinion... In all fairness you are also meant to give the frame a good month before assembling parts onto it and riding it... Argos probably do a fantastic pair job for £200+... Huge difference of course... I have seen someone selling a Colnago Master frame pearl white with Colnago super decals... Excellent paint work but doesn't take Einstein to work out that if they are the incorrect decals this can break the aesthetic appearance of a frame of that kind if quality!

Most refinishers would charge that just to save the chrome...( masking etc. )
