Rider is my sister's fiancee. He is in critical condition, next 12 hours will tell if he will survive this.
Any idea what happened there? -

I thought the same, it seem that it may have happened at the intersection of Kew Foot Road and A316 Twickenham Road.

What seems to have happened:
Rider was using bike lane the on the side of A316 when at the intersection of Kew Foot Road refuse truck turned from A316 to Kew Foot Road. Cyclist hit the side of the truck and was rolled under the rear wheels of the truck.Rider has broken skull and now all depends on how much his brain will swell. Surgeons have warned that in any case it is not likely that he will be the same man as before.

Oh Damn! Really sorry to hear about this

Don't lose hope about the guy and his identity just yet, Prestige. One or two people on here have had head injuries and haematomas and recovered quite remarkably. Not trying to promise you and your sister the rainbow, but there can be chances.

Also the trauma centre at the Royal London is world class as is the care he would have received from the HEMS team. I know it sounds glib but he really is in great hands.

Not that it matters in any way at all, but the bit of street that continues from Kew Foot Road to the A316 is called St John's Grove, hence the confusion.
Such an awful crash to happen. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

Thank you everyone for kind words and encouragement. Thanks Oliver Schick for correcting correcting the place of accident. Thanks for Pootsmanuva reminding that he is very fortunate to have really the best treatment possible. Also amazing work from the people at the scene and local ambulance crew, ambulance arrived just 3 minutes after the accident. What also brings hope is that he is very fit man and rest of his body is mostly unharmed, so he has only the head injury to wrestle with. All that can be done now is to wait and and hope for the best.
