Wanted: 8 speed Campagnolo-fit rear hub

Posted on
  • I'm after an 8 speed rear hub to fit 8s Campagnolo/Miche cassettes.

Preferably 36 hole but I'll consider 32 hole.

I'm in Australia and fully prepared to pay the crippling p&p.

    Come at me, hub hoarders.

  • This is a 36 hole Campy with a Wolber M59 rim.
    £60 + P&P.

got this nice wheelset for sale at the moment.

  • any 9-10 spd hub will take 8spd cassettes, though the alignment won't be perfect and you'll need a lockring.

or if you have a friend who can manufacture spacers exactly for the right size, you can use a loose cog 9spd cassette.
or just buy shimano wheels and a 8spd sunrace cassette, which is spaced exactly for 5mm.

    cheap..

  • **RESOLVED

Thanks for your offers, I'm now using a non-Campag hub for this build.**

Thanks for that offer, it looks lovely, I'm sorted now so won't need it.

Thanks, I actually remember seeing those. I wasn't keen on shipping a wheelset because of $$$. I'm sorted now anyways.

This is very helpful indeed. I had planned to use a 7spd freewheel and lock out one of the shifter clicks, but it's interesting that an 8spd Sunrace cassette is spaced exactly for Campag's 5mm.

Doesn't that mean you can't use the 8spd Sunrace cassettes with 8spd Shimano shifters (which are built for 4.8mm travel)?

  • No idea.. :) Those are sold as shimano-compatible cassettes, yet, when we measured the cogs and spacers, it turned out to be 5mm.

A friend of mine was riding his 8spd 1056 shimano gruppo with 8spd sunrace cassette, without problem, then we changed wheels (I have 8spd campag setup) and continued the ride on each other's wheels without any issue.. really. I have no problem with shifting on a 8spd sunrace cassette.

Cheap, available in 12-25 or 12-28, 11-21 ratios, as i recall.

also, keep in mind: even 4.8mm can work fine. because the upper-lower limit screws will determine your dérailleurs two extreme positions. You set up the gearing on the middle cog of the cassette, so, in each direction you'll only get a very little misalignment, which will not be noticed due to the free-play of the derailleurs jockey wheels... most jockey wheels have around 0.5mm wobble, so, if the aligment is correct on the middle two cogs, and the two extreme positions are set up well, the gearing should be fiiiinneee :)
