    Ridiculous!

Thou while reading it I was thinking that bike-polo-dual-brake-levers could be very useful for one-armed cyclists?

  • Brakes in that style have been around for a while, for example for hemiplegic cyclists.

  • I went to Germany a couple of months ago, Berlin to be precise, for a job interview.

On the way back from lunch, we were crossing the road (on a green man) and a car ran the light and knocked one of our group down, hitting me in the hand in the process.

Later he was charged with jaywalking.

Not sure I'd want to use the roads in Germany. Seems their 'car is king' mentality stretches even further than ours.

  • When I cycled in Berlin I thought it was better than Amsterdam, cars will overtake on your left then wait to turn right, they stop to let cyclists past. Astonishing courtesy. That said one Berliner cyclist bawled me out, I have literally no idea what I was supposed to have done wrong but this German bloke shouted stuff at me in Berlin talk as I stared at him.

How the fuck does that work?

    Schick!

Happened to me in Hamburg as well. I think I dared to step into the cycle lane, despite it not being clear exactly where it was.

Impossible to say without more info. Obviously, if you really did cross on green, the driver should have been at fault. Drivers turning corners often encounter pedestrian crossings at green and are supposed to stop and let pedestrians cross. (It's not like in the UK, where a permitted turn and a green light for pedestrians together are a no-no.) There might have been some sort of grey area triggered, or a police officer didn't see the incident correctly. However, I don't know how the relevant German legislation works.

Despite the fact that about 30 people came over to us to say they saw the man was green, the only 'independent' witness who actually stuck around until the police came was some crazy junkie lady who insisted the man was red.
