Did I ? .. we will never know, isn't censorship great!

Hippy clearly you haven't researched how dictatorships work.
Anyone of a dissenting opinion to the status quo should be removed before they spoil the fun. -

You were reported to the mods by several of the forum's women for posting a load of old unhelpful shite in a space that's supposed to provide a safe zone for women to support each other in what remains a largely male arena. HTH.
For what it's worth, I haven't yet reported your creepy rep comment as I'm still on the fence about how annoyed I am about it, but your whining here might encourage me to report that too.

That's going to end in tears. They need separate areas for fighting and tai chi.

I don't mind so long as its recorded.
I think most people will see it as you went out of your way to engage and provoke a response from me, am I misreading the signs?Would have posted publicly on the thread but I get the feeling Velocio will ban me for life.
So how about a date?

So you've got enough self-awareness to realise that it's not going to be seen as acceptable, and you did it anyway, privately, because you're a slimy little douche. Gotcha.

no date then? :(

Try crying harder, people find that incredibly attractive.

Given that the comment is creepy, that asking for a date when it's abundantly clear she's going to say no is offensive, and that you do seem to be revelling under the illusion that anyone I ban will see their ban lifted in a few weeks... well, would you like to find out?
4 reported posts all in the past week, by a large number of people, all for subtly, and not so subtly sexist posts across the forum.
Congratulations, you've earned yourself a ban.

Tommy aside; is there a particular group of people who make reports/complaints? And if so, are they now the default arbiters of what is/isn't acceptable conduct or offence causing comment?
I've been about a while and I don't think I've ever made a complaint, I just scroll on past or call someone a tit. What's the norm?

Not true, less has been reported and dealt with this year than the same period (first half of the year) last year.
But long term it might cutdown on the number of requests.
It would be successful in this. Identifying those who report others for sexist comments, bullying, etc will result in fewer people reporting things... more bullying, sexist comments, etc will go unreported and not dealt with.
Yes we'd have fewer requests, but we'd have a shittier forum too.
Anonymity should not be required for anyone requesting legitimate censorship.
This I very much agree with. 100%.
But kicking people off a forum for being sexist jerks isn't censorship. Censorship is very strictly defined:
"Censorship is the suppression of speech or other public communication which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, politically incorrect or inconvenient as determined by a government, media outlet or other controlling body."
We are not a government body, a media outlet or a controlling body.
We're just a load of people who choose to hang out in the same part of the internet and talk shit about bikes. As the number of us has grown we've become more intolerant of the jerks amongst us, as it's harder to make a cool thing scale when a bunch of jerks get involved.
That there is a collective desire to not tolerate homophobic, sexist, degrading, racist, hateful content isn't censorship... it's being decent human beings and showing respect and dignity for others. Anonymity will continue to be granted to those who show such virtues.

Aside from isolated incidents where a few people have got chips on their shoulders and are swiping at each other via the report system, it's a very large number of people.
We don't get as many reports as you might imagine (20 in the last week for 15,000 new posts in that time frame, reported by 18 unique people).
It's rare that one person will report things frequently. When it happens it tends to be along the lines of "I wouldn't normally report something but this is extremely offensive" and another report shortly after "Another recent example of homophobia". It tends to be supporting evidence for 1 incident, rather than someone using the system to report lots and lots of people.
It's me that ultimately determines what should stay and go.
My rules:
1) If it breaches the UK Defamation Act or any provision of the EU E-Commerce Directive, including things like race hate material, libellous comments, anti-Semitism, etc... then a ban is assured.2) If it's obviously off-the-scale offensive or not suited to the forum or respectful of wider forum etiquette that I know of from how people have reported stuff before or said to me... i.e. pornography, pictures of victims of road traffic incidents, etc... I remove the content and a ban is assured.
After this it gets fuzzy:
3) If a single person reports something and I know of any friction between the two, I ignore it.4) If a single person reports something and I don't know of any friction... I see how the content looks in context
5) If multiple people report it and I know of friction, I see how it looks in context.
6) If multiple people report it and I know of no friction... then unless there's some campaign being mounted against someone, I figure I will probably warn or ban.
7) If multiple people who have never reported stuff before report something... it's very likely to be a ban.
After this... it's basically me trying to think about how I've acted in the past and to stay very consistent with that.
I don't want to deviate from how I've done things... so I basically continue to act the same way unless you've all given me a strong signal (via reporting things) that you want me to act a different way.
Also... I do hesitate to ban anyone with a userID half or less than whatever our current number is. i.e. we're giving out 45000s at the moment, so anyone below 22000 I will hesitate about doing anything about on a first offence.
Oh, and since this is actually one of the least moderated forums I've ever seen, and I do very little actual moderating... I also figure that if you've been given a warning and choose to ignore it or argue it, or be petty, etc... well my life is too short for whatever games you wish to play, I'll just ban you anyway.
Mostly though... no-one's gaming it, the system is rarely used in relation to the number of posts made, and tommy was the single most reported person this last week with a lion's share of all the reports.

For all the spelling mistakes and typos? You have a point.
I've noticed an increasing amount of censorship of the forum and was wondering which users are actually requesting it.
Haven't seen it published else where but hoping something like googles transparency report?
http://www.google.com/transparencyreport/
I agree google set a high bench mark for information freedom and the work involved by the admins might not be considered worthwhile.
But long term it might cutdown on the number of requests. Anonymity should not be required for anyone requesting legitimate censorship.
