• We have a report of a serious crash between a car and a cyclist at the junction with Westwood Hill and Fountain Drive on Monday morning at 10:15. The police say the cyclist was taken to hospital but there is no news about how he/she is getting on.

  • That was me unfortunately. I was heading from Westwood Hill down to Fountain Drive and the driver coming from Crystal Palace Parade didn't give way, hit me hard and bounced me off their windscreen out into the road in front. I had about an hour and 15 laying in the road until the ambulance arrived and then spent the day in hospital. I'm now at home recovering from my injuries. Brand new bike written off too. British Cycling lawyers now dealing with this. Hopefully I'm back on the road sooner rather than later!

  • Heal up fast.

  • ouch! I hope this turns out well.
    Good luck!

  • ^^^how lousy,

Sending (((hugs))) for a speedy recovery xxx

  • What is with this recent spate of ambulances taking an hour or more to arrive?

    Heal up fast.

  • Heal up fast Currid.

Unbelievable the ambulance can take that long. I ahve to say that austerity leaps to mind. Not the place for such conversation though, Sorry.

  • Heal up currid - sorry to hear about the new bike.

  • Rotten luck, currid. Heal fast and I hope you get a replacement bike in time for you to get back riding again.

  • Heal up soon, Currid.

  • Glad you are recovering.

I avoid anything more than a straight left turn at that roundabout. Had lots of issues turning right from Fountain Drive to get onto Crystal Place Parade. Drivers accelerate out of the previous roundabout and kinda forget there is another one.

  • Glad you're OK Currid, wishing you a quick recovery.

Just a heads up to all following that the junction concerned is due to be redone soon to make it less hazardous for cyclists and pedestrians. LB Southwark are going to consult on options for it some time this year. I don't know any more than that at the moment, but keep a look out - am sure Southwark and Lewisham LCC groups will hear about it when the consultation goes out. The councillors responsible are aware of this incident and others at the same location.

  • That was me unfortunately. ...... I had about an hour and 15 laying in the road until the ambulance arrived and then spent the day in hospital.
    That's amazing.

The first report we had of this came from a LCC member whose wife was walking past with her 15 year old grandson at about 10:15. She returned about 50 minutes later and saw you lying there.

They were outraged that the police/ambulance had left what she believed to be a dead body lying in the road. I will contact her to let her know of your wonderful return to life.

  • Thanks for the concern and wishes everyone. I had a nurse, a paramedic and an off duty doctor turn up to look after me and ensure I was in a safe position due to possible neck/spinal injury, all of whom were excellent. The doctor and the police were getting quite angry about the lack of ambulance though.

I very happy to report that at no point did I die, I was just very, very still.

I can also confirm that laptops can assist in breaking your fall, mine has my spine imprints to attest to this!
