Come to Glasgow, ride whatever tyres you want*.
*Almost, our management are very scared of banning any particular brand or model of tyre. They won't even let us categorically ban dual compound tyres though we can advise against them.
I'd be surprised if Lee Valley take as hardline a stance as Manc but I would expect they'll be a bit stricter than we are being.
We have plenty riders that are also riding Meadowbank and Caird Park on the same tyres they are using with us, as to what those tyres are...I dunno, sorry.

There is a large majority of Accredited riders at Manc including staff running Conti Sprinters... they are fine!

I am included in that majority too...
Quite frankly the 'approved' hire bike Schwalbe Duranos are sketchy on the boards compared to sprinters in my opinion.

Thanks for the advice. Sprinters it is.

No worries!
Obviously make sure they are cleaned with alcohol and scrubbed a little before travelling too slow on the bankings. But that goes for any tyre or tubular on the track of course.

Just dual compound, coloured and michelins are 'banned'.
There are some coloured tyres which can be fine, but as so many are not it's better just to have that advice. All michelins seem to be slippery on wood, so again just common sense there. If you can't find anything made by conti or vittoria then you're probably being difficult. For clinchers I like vittoria diamanté prolite, tubs I like vittoria pista elite or pista evo cs. I don't like the standard cheap pista CS as the base tape comes up at the sides and they seem to go hard quite quickly.Manc's list is very old.
For a while now I have heard that silica compound tyres are rubbish for indoor velodromes. I have seen a very short list of Manchester approved tubs and tyres, including the tempo and sonderklasse but excluding the conti clinchers and the sprinter and competition. Looking at the conti website, it seems that for their non coloured high end tubs and tyres they are getting away from the asc rubber (activated silica compound) and switching it all to black chili rubber. I see a lot of marketing babble, but no confirmation from conti that they are ditching the silica and going back to regular carbon black rubber.
My questions
is black chili just carbon black rubber?
If so will use of sprinters, competitions, and supersonics be approved on uk indoor velodromes?
For a mix of indoor and outdoor can one be a cheapskate and buy sprinters?
Thanks for any help.
