  • For a long time i was only a daily reader of this forum. for my next project im so excited i want to share the progress of this build.

In the summer month i use my Orlowski Cyclocross for road rides. Searched for a road bike quite a time and finally found a nice Serotta Csi in my size (52cm). Very good conditions, full Campagnolo Record with Campagnolo Nucleon wheelset.

The bike comes from austria to germany. Hope there are no problems with shipping. Should arrive in the next 1-2 weeks.

Here is a little teaser from the seller pics:

  • That's one of the later ones, good find- looks well looked after also, with the frame saver sheath on the (Nokon?) housing.

  • The frame is from 2000/2001. Here one pictue how its build up from the previous owner. The original Serotta fork (quill stem) is also included, but i think the fork looks great.

    My plans are:

    • Cut Steerer
    • Change Saddle/Bar/Bartape (I have an Bontrager compact in the parts bin, i hope they fit the build well)
    • Hope i can fit 28c Gatorskin
    • New Bottlecages (King Cage or Ciussi Inox stainless?)
  • Which (Serotta) forks did you get with it- carbon or steel?

  • Gatorskins aren't for nice bikes :-(

  • holy spacer stack batman

  • Gatorskins aren't for nice bikes :-(

Gatorskins are for bikes that getting used! :-p

The bike comes with the Serotta carbon fork.. The bike goes in the shipping today, yeah!

  • That's interesting - I had thought that they'd gone to ahead-set style non-threaded steerers with the transition to the 3D dropouts.

It's a good fork- but I can see why you'd use the other one if the Serotta fork required a quill stem.

  • Gatorskins are for bikes that getting used! :-p

Disagree! They're for bikes with no brakes! There are far nicer tires with puncture protection belts, I used to underestimate how much nice tyres can completely change the feel of a bike. If it's in the budget I highly recommend something like Vittoria Pave's. Made my Cannondale go from being okay to ride to being an absolute delight.

If you still want an actual puncture protection belt then something like a Durano is probably a better shout. Just my 2p anyway.

I always liked the 28c Gatorskins (have them on my Cross/Road). I can hit some gravelraods with them and never have puncture problems.

First i will see the difference to the Ultremo tires that are on the bike.

I also have thougt in the direction of Challenge Paris-Rouibax oir Continental GrandPrix 4 Season.

  • There's loads of clearance at the rear (on my CSi at least, and I doubt that's changed), it 's the fork that is/can be interesting.

I've got 25c tyres (tubulars, so they are bang on 25mm) and the underside of my fork has lots of parallel scratches from debris riding round the tyre.

Nothing jams, but there is zero chance of getting a mudguard in there.

However- that's the F1 fork, the later forks might have more clearance.

Something like a 23c (or maybe 25c, but test this) GP 4000-S II on an H+ Son TB14 would be good (if you don't like tubs.

  • Similiar on my Atlanta - 25c tubular on the rear and not a problem at all.

Out front the after market Time carbon fork has enough clearance to not worry about debris like the F1^ with the same size tubular as the rear.

  • Mine has 25c 4 seasons on an archetype rim and clears the F1 fork

  • So today i checked Serotta catalogs, the model must be a 2001 with the "Sizzler" paintjob.

Bike is on the way since monday, maybe arrives tomorrow and is ready for a first ride on the weekend!

  • Love it in Black:

  • Ridden the bike for 90km this weekend. Really like the ride quality, stiff but also very comfortable.

Will upload some picture in the next 2 days.

  • those schwalbe ultremos on nucleons should have made for a sublime ride :)

  • managed to snap a photo:

Not 100% satisfied with the cockpit setup. I feel a little bit to streched (compared to my cross bike). Maybe its the 105mm stem in combination with the handelbars.

  • 90mm -17 stem?

  • ayor, this fit calculator might help you out

  • Have the exact Syntace stem also in 90mm in my parts bin. I think i will try this out on the next ride.

Maybe i have to get used to the little bit more stretched position on the road compared to the cross bike. Think thats pretty normal...

  • syntace stems are things of beauty. really love them. ild try the 90mm stem, it does look quite long; long reach on the bars..
    #internetbikefit

  • this will be real nice but the distance saddle to hoods looks just too much (and almost 0 drop) if you look at the distance from saddle to bb...
Like Dammit said before, a shorter -17 might help but I'd definitely try first of all some short reach compact bars!

  • What are be actual measurements of this frame? If, for whatever reason, you decide that you want rid of it, I'll happily take it off your hands!

  • Thats really nice i always like these lugged serottas.
