Skylock keyless bike lock. Thoughts?

  • Just saw this Skylock keyless Bluetooth bike lock. Looks promising!

    According to the website:
"Skylock connects to your phone so you never have to worry about losing a key.

    • Bluetooth
Skylock can be unlocked through the app. Hold down the button and Skylock’s dual-locking mechanism disengages.

    -Auto-Unlock
With Auto-Unlock, Skylock senses your approach and automatically unlocks for you, without having to reach for your phone.

    -Click ‘N Go
Skylock makes locking easy. Just snap the shackle into the lockbar and walk away. Skylock locks AUTOMATICALLY.

    -Capacitive Touch
Don’t worry about needing your phone..."

You know what, read it all here and here's vid:

  • Sounds like a high tech approach to what is a trivial problem. I suspect that in reality, a bike thief would just smash/cut the lock.

  • Sounds great in theory IMO - not so much the keyless aspect, but the notification (if the lock's being moved/jigged) sounds pretty clever.

  • What will that do in reality? Let's ignore the the moving/jiggling part (bike racks anyone?) if the lock is being tampered with and your phone warns you? Then what? I don't think thieves really want to hang about. So either a very quick job, or not try at all.
So even if the phone warns you, unless you're a stones throw away from the bike, there really isn't much you can do.

It might be harsh to say, but this is a Designers version of a lock, not an Engineers. I'd rather spend my money on the henchlock

  • Definitely built as a show piece rather than a useful device

  • "Skylock connects to your phone so you never have to worry about losing a key"

Ermm.. how many people lose their phones?!

  • 0/5

    would not buy.

"Skylock has been designed to military standards. It has been built to withstand even the toughest breaking methods."

    and these are..?

Also military standard bike lock sounds seriously impressive. they must have connections other lock manufacturers don't have.

  • Nah, military standard just means you hire an angry old Russian with an AK to stand over your bike.

  • i'd pay heftily for that..
