Chain whip

  • So I want to swap around a couple of wheels which is going to mean removing both a 10 speed & 11 speed campag cassette. I'm about to buy a lifeline campag cassette removal tool, but will I need a specific chain whip as well? I have a shimano chain whip (Pro) which I've used on a 10 speed cassette before, but don't know if this will be any good.

  • Surely any chain whip would lock the cassette?

  • All 10 speed chains and sprockets are going to be the same on the outside, where the campag/shimano/other type tools slot in it will have more/less splines but the chainwhip just wraps around the outside all the same.

Ignore the 200 miles they mention in the video that's bs.

If it's something you will find yourself doing often then I would buy a tool with either an arm already on it or a socket hole on the back.

  • Chain whips only come in 2 sizes; 1/8th for singles and fixies, 3/32nd for multi gear freewheels and cassettes.
