What's that hill just out Basildon like? It looks painful!

old church hill is dutty. potholed, loose gravel, steep and if you're unlucky 2 way traffic on a single width lane. should be kinda fun on the gangstas though

there's a pub called the crown a couple of hundred yards down on your left once you reach the top of the hill that you can recuperate at (with a giant wooden carving my grandad made in the woods just behind)
also I'd probably recommend riding all the way to the end of dry street then take nethermayne down towards london road (the pavement is shared use on the left hand side) as it's preferable to crossing the double roundabouts going over the A13 on a bike imho.

^What he said about Church Hill. I've done it in a winter on my road bike and Rourke running 23mm tires and it was fine. I did care less about potholes riding Gangsta last time.

i did it on my steamroller (well most of it) on 23mm, it's fine to ride up but it's not as smooth as streetview makes out. it's pretty gnarly.

Are you coming HatBeard? We should stop at the pub if you do :)

nah no gangsta and I know those roads well enough being it's where I grew up, only go back if necessary.
-

p.s. I wasn't trying to override your route btw, if anything the direction you're coming from is prob the easiest way to get onto both of those roundabouts to get across. I just know the roads and the kind of people on them and know how fucked up the driving can be around there. :)

I got what you're saying, no problem at all. I'm starting to think your suggested way is more sensible for a larger group, avoiding the roundabouts. Will see on a day.
I want to say again : Everyone is welcome as long as you got bigger tyres for the last bit. This ride is NOT for Gangsta owner only.

I'm really looking forward to this.

Cheers Dom! It' been shamelessly borrowed from Dimi. He showed it to us one freezing March day last year and I've done it few times now. Two weeks ago done it both ways for the first time, on a Gangsta.

Looks like the weather in London will be great on Saturday but a little showery by the time we reach Southend.
Also, dependent on how we feel on arrival, is anyone interested in riding the return leg too?
Hi all.
Idea came up after our first meet, to ride our Gangstas to Southend.
**This time every one is welcome, as long as you ride fixed, with big risers and tires that are bigger than 28c. **
You'll need slightly bigger tires as we are planning to go a bit of the tarmac onto a gravel/dirt path for last 6ish miles.
About 45 miles, Route is here.
Some shared paths, some empty industrial roads, country lanes, a bit of everything.
Meeting at 9:30 and leaving at 10 from south corner of London Fields (Broadway Market side)
Let me know if I forgot anything at all, never started one of those before.
Cheers!
