Yet another bike shed

  • So, BareNecessities and Fox have awesome man caves. We just moved into our first house and it comes with a shed. Mine is much smaller but it's what you do with it that counts right?

This shed has to contain 5 bikes.
So here is how it was this morning: crappy shelves all the way round at shoulder height and full of shite:

Inspired by BareNecessities' bike hanger, I'm doing the same. This afternoon, I went to B&Q for parts, cleared the shite, unscrewed the shelves (thank fuck for electric screwdrivers) and attached two screw-in wall hooks with internal diameter about 25mm, rubber coated (can't find them on the website).

Then it started drizzling and I gave up until tomorrow.

  • Excellent. If you get five bikes in there I am going to have to up my game because I have five in mine currently.

After seeing BareNecessities' bike hanger yesterday I am considering doing the same, as I reckon with that method I could get five bikes across the width of my cellar, not four, which would make six in total.

I seriously don't know how anyone coped before electric screwdrivers.

  • I'm going to need a separate folder for all my bike shed/cellar subscriptions soon :-)

Much as I like the sliding hooks, it was spotter who I blatantly copied initially gave me the idea.

Good thread. I should probably do photos of mine, I'm currently mid way through the roof, but I have got the cycle storage finished

the pictured cross pieces are 6'6" and have since been removed/replaced for the new 8' ones.

  • I made progress on Sunday, but then had to go to the pub... Update soon!

  • So the hanger is up and works.

The longer hooks are too long to be useful and will be replaced once I can get to B&Q. I'm unlikely to make any progress for while, so the shelves, running shoes and tools will have stay in a pile on the floor.

Any recommendations for a tool board? I've got a few bits of plywood cos we disassembled a shitty cupboard so I was thinking of fashioning that into something. I've got about 1m of wall to play with.

  • Plywood will be fine for a tool board I should think. MDF probably slightly easier but since you've got a bit of ply, why not.

Make sure you draw around your tools with a black pen, and give them all names ;)

Sir! The private's spanner is called Charlene, Sir!

  • Here we go:

So you can just about fit 5 in there, but the last one is a bit of a stretch.

I've just noticed the above sounds really dodgy, so I'll emphasise that I'm talking about bikes!

  • With the recent man-has-sex-wtih-bicycle story it still sounds dodgy...

  • Glad I'm not the only one who found that funny, I giggled like a school girl.

  • Did I say recent? I meant 7 years ago...
