  • Hi all, this is a bit of a strange request but we have one of our riders in southern general hospital glasgow after a serious crash while doing end to end. If you live close or maybe work there, is there any chance you could visit and talk bikes women strava with him. He will be there for several weeks with a spine injury. We are in cheshire so regular visits are a bit unpredictable. Any assistance would be greatly apppreciated from a fellow rider.

    Thanks pacef8

    Pm for info

  • I'm in Edinburgh and work over in Glasgow the weekends. I could probably make it over for a visit after work (after 6pm).

  • Hello, sounds terrible-hope he's ok. I'll try to look in sometime over the weekend/next week. Pming now.

  • Thanks guys its much appreciated.

  • My office is 5 minutes from the hospital, I can drop in if you let me know where he is.
Sorry don't know the pm protocols on here yet.

  • You could ask here as well:

  • I have sent you a message leftfield The kindness of people is very humbling.

  • After a long time in the operating theatre he is now recuperating in his bed.

At the time of speaking, the doctor hadn't been able to give an update on the operation but the good news is that there was no damage to the vertabrae in his neck which is what they had thought at first. This means he no longer has the need for a neck brace so he can use a pillow for the 1st time since the accident.

I'll update you all again further as soon as we hear more
    Cheers

PS He's still a virgin though

  • Can't send pms yet, left you a voicemail.

  • Hey, I am in Glasgow on Monday. I can find time for a detour. PM deets etc.

  • Have sent you a message via email, can probably do Friday/Sat/Sun no problem.

Can he eat grapes/read magazines yet!!

  • seen this from link in Glasgow fixed gear, could have problems getting there myself, but my other half works around in the Southern, and two other hospitals, could arrange for some books, model kits mags etc to be left with him,

Just joined tonight so will pm tomorrow evening for details, let me know what I can do

  • Any details of what happened? Is the bike OK? Can they post on here? We can take the piss out of them to help pass the time.

  • He was doing End to End and came off over the bars on a downhill somewhere near the Lecht and landed on some rocks... Punctured lung, broken ribs and spinal trauma.

Apparently the bike is spotless, and in safe hands.

  • Been in to see him tonight, his parents were up , surgery was yesterday and thankfully his neck is ok but looks like a long road to recovery.
He will be in the southern for 3-4 weeks, visiting is 4-9,will check weekend times and post tomorrow.

  • Lecht is right next to Cock Bridge. Just sayin'...

Hope he heals up quick and proper.

  • I could go visit and talk him to death about bikes, cakes, coffee and girls, he's probably bored of that by now though ;)

    12-9 at the weekend.

  • Just seen this, a thread has been posted on glasgowfixedgear.com

  • Thanks guys. Its all appreciated we will be there lunchtime ish saturday . I will sound the fat lad out on the behind the scenes network for him. He now has 26 cms worth of rods in his spine to stabalise his fractures . On a sperate note any chat about anything after two weeks on a board is better than anything. Hopefully he can progress to mending innertubes in the near future,

    Thanks one again

  • We visited today on a 14 hour round trip. He could be worse infact he could of been paralysed but we never understood just how good the national spinal centre and staff could be. He really is in the best place, so he is still heavily medicated for the pain the rods will be in place for at least 2 years. A possible broken neck that will need a brace . A ct scan will reveal more then physio will start for an undetermined length of time. .
Once again thank you all so much for the comfort you have given him.

Ps what is that siempre cafe like that we passed?

  • Hi again,

sorry didn't get to log in yesterday, could get a trip in to visit tomorrow or tuesday will PM Pacef8 in a minute

  • system not letting me PM just yet will try again in the morning

  • No worries its not like he is going anywhere fast.
Its the Edinhall spinal injuries unit.

  • A little good news that he is not completely vertical . So that should make him a little happier .A Small victory today.
