  • Lovely GIOS Compact frame with good working 2x7 speed Shimano 105 group.

Great bike of the late 80ties made of Columbus SL tubing by famous Gios workshop in Torino Italy. The well known blue paint is overall very shiny but unfortunately it has some chips (see photo's) on the right side of the upper tube. No dents, serious scratches or damage. The chromed fork is nearly perfect.

    Seat tube: 60 cm (c-t)
    Top tube: 57 cm (c-c)

Bike is in a very good overall condition. It has all original marks of the high quality handmade Gios Compact frames like several engraved Gios marks and drop outs. Ofcourse it has the patented rear dropouts wich gives you the possibility to change the length of the frame.

    Parts:
Smooth working Shimano 105 2 x 7 speed index shifting group with 52/42 crank set.

Wheels: Shimano 105 hubs with 7 speed cassette, Mavic MA2 rims and very fresh Schwalbe Lugano clincher tyres (did 1 ride only). The front wheel has a very very tiny turn.

Cinelli handle bar and alu stem.

Aluminium fluted seatpost with classic Selle Italia saddle

    Shimano 600 headset and bb

    Pedals: Shimano SPD clipless included

    Bottle cage: 1 included

  • Is this lovely bike still available?

  • Don't ask me why but it is still available.........

  • To me it looks like the very first Edition of the Compact frame1987/88! This is a very sole survivor because many of them broke at the rear dropouts. Few survived in original colour/decal scheme - like yours. Its the only collectable Compact, because its the only one which has Access to the registro storico of Gios italy. All the really rare parts are on the frame, like dropout ends, rubbers for the brakecable lining through the frame and the badge are mounted. So forget the jap-crap and look at this unique piece of bike history. It was the FIRST ever made frame with this Technology.
When you post the complete framenumber, I can tell you the buildyear.

  • Dibs

  • Framenumber please, now I'm longing to know ...

  • Feel verry sorry i forgot to check. I visit my storage on Monday again. Ofcourse i will check then.

  • Finaly i found time to check the framenumber! It's 707040

  • So it's from the very first year: 1987, a unique piece

  • I remember road racing against a lad who had one of these painted pink which was a change from Gios blue. The earliest one I have seen on the Gios historic web page is a 1973? one made by Guiseppe Pela who also made frames for Masi and was the teacher of Irio Tommasini.Nice frames with nice details.

  • Well, the Pink colour was an option for the Gios Compact Pro from 1994. Also available were: Red, White, Yellow, Black and Blue. The Compact frames started 1987, not earlier.

  • The type I Record started 1972. I have a '73 Record. From '74 the frames changed name in Super Record because Campagnolo starts with the Super Record group. Type II has chromed fork too but diifferent decals. After '78/'79 the Type III came with the blue fork with coins and changed decals again. Later Professional and Compact were the famous steel types.

  • The Type 3 Super Record was only build 1979. New Proracing Team Ijsboerke started with them. 80/81 was Type 3/b with recessed allen bolts at the break mounting.

  • 82/82 was Type 3/c. The shifter cables went under the BB shell. Type 4 started in 1984-1986 with golden coins in the fork crown.

  • In 1983 the first Professional 's were build. Some of the first ones even had "GT" cutout BB shells! and the top tube had no holes for the breakcable but welded little tubes to guide the rear breakcable. Known colours of these early models are white and blue.

  • Thanks for your comments GiosCompact!

  • why are they actually called compact? looks like traditional geometry to me..?

also plus kudo's to gios compact's contributions..

  • By shitfing the rear drop outs you can change the geometrie in very short wheel base (maybe that's the reason for Compact)? I will ask Marco Gios next weekend!

  • Oh, you gonna visit him? That's great, just sended my latest frame down there for a paint Job. It' a 1979 Super Record which I found looted and spoiled with wrong colour +decals on the bay for little.

  • Lovely the way Marco and Aldo are doing the Gios job. Marco is visiting the Retro Tour of Flanders next weekend. I will meet him there.

  • It's the one in Oudenaarde near Gent? Please be so kind and send my greetings and best wishes.
