A beautifull 1979 Super Record you got there. Whats wrong with the Hubs and rims?

Just took a second look, what kind of brakes are mounted? Please let me know
-

Brakes are Modolo's - hoods are not in good condition, so will almost certainly be replaced. The wheels, while similar, are not a matching pair - that sort of thing gets on y nerves.

Lovely bike and great 'intimidated by wife' confession. About a year ago I had an 80's bike with modolo levers and crappy hoods, I emailed modolo (serena@modolo.com) and they got back to me saying
Dear Sirs,
We still ahve some original Modolo lever Hoods 919 in white...
We are selling them for 30€ a PP
Regards
Serena Modolowhich is a lot but still less than ebay prices. I then found some NOS ones at a jumble for £4 so never had to go through with it.
On the 'scared of wife' note you might not want to communicate too openly with italian women named Serena though ;-)

Great tip regarding the hoods, thanks.
To be fair, everybody I know is scared of my wife:)

This should be the quickest build thread ever: move levers up a bit, change hoods, clean and rebuild everything else, change saddle, ride it like you stole it.
Fully-grown tigers cringe before my wife, I know the wisdom of cowardice....

How come? I mean this wife/roadbike antipodes ... I feel so common with this situation :D, so alike

Oh god... your original Gios thread led me to months of ebay trawling looking for one, and a few very close bids (also wife unaware :)) . Now you've gone and started another one...

Don't you know I'm going to complicate it though.
I started thinking about this build about a month ago. A chap in Ireland had a chromed Gios fork up for grabs. Sadly the steerer tube was too short for this frame.
All was not lost however, 'cos he did have another interesting couple of items for sale:

So last weekend I was at Lake Garda in Italy for the Colnago Cycling Festival. This is a brilliant event which I can highly recommend - a beautiful location, great food and wine everywhere, and a varied weekend of cycling activities - from a round the lake randoneur, to a vintage ride, a family ride, kids ride - you name it, fun for all the family.
Which is exactly why I ended up having a long weekend with Mrs Jangle, the Janglettes and some friends in the Italian lakes.
As there were 8 of us - 4 adults and 4 kids - I volunteered to go on ahead by road, taking everyone's bikes and baggage, so the main group could just rock up at Gatwick on Friday afternoon and sail straight through.
My route to me straight through France, over the Alps, down into Italy around Turin and then across to Lake Garda - a long drive, but with good roads and some great scenery so no great burden.
If you drop down the Alps at the right spot - in my case through the Frejus Tunnel, your route takes you more or less straight through Volpiano, which is of course the home of Gios, so obviously, as I was in the area, I couldn't resist making a virtue out of necessity, and popping in.
I am now the proud owner of a brand new - from the hands of the master - set of chrome Gios Prodigiosa forks:

During the progress of this build:

That terrible combination of Red Wine and e-bay conspired to lead me astray. As a result, I inexplicably found myself taking delivery of a second Gios Super Record.
Since I am essentially a coward, and like all men afraid of my wife, I have this one delivered to work, where it has been languishing in the warehouse, making the odd trip out to Shoreditch Grind for a Ristretto and chocolate brownie.
I guess my (drunken) reasoning was that my original Gios was just too nice to be an all weather ride, so I needed something more practical, something I could ride the living shit out of.
Fact is, this lovely bike hung around at work for about a year, maybe 18 months, but now its made its way into the shed, and it's playtime. I think it came from either Germany or Holland, can't be too sure, but like all things Gios, it is a truly lovely thing:
In spite of the fact that I didn't really need it, I was pleased with the bike when it arrived - it was a perfect fit, had a decent groupset and some really nice details.
Lovely as this bike is in its present form, there are a few issues. It looks like someone gave it a knock while it was at work, and there is a dent in one of the fork blades. It's not very big, and doesn't affect the handling, but it's there, and it niggles. Also the hubs and rims don't match, and the decals have seen better days.
I'm not sure where I'm going to go with this, and I don't really need another project, but it's sort of sitting there, asking to be played with, so I guess it would be rude not to.
