Something like this:

Spd's are fine, very cheap, cleats last a long time. There is a difference between multi release cleats (which come out in any direction if you pull hard enough) and nonM (which only come out with a side twist)... Depends if you worry more about not being able to unclip fast enough or unclip ping by mistake... Some say starting with M is easier, most end up with nM.
Atac are generally said to be better, but cost multiples more, both the pedals and more importantly the cleats which will also wear faster.
Not sure custom shoes will be good for a hundred miler, a proper light road shoe is soooo worth it for longer distances.

Great info. Probably go for some m520s in that case, alongside some cheapish shoes. Maybe the 661 filters

I'm size 8 if anyone's selling (will take tired ones for the conversion ting)

If they are mainly for polo, go Time. They are better for polo, even the single release SPD cleats will unclip when you don't want it.

I've got some pretty worn out Sidi Dominators (eu 43) you can have for a few beers. The soles are worn down though so if you're walking around the cleats get worn away super quick. They'd be good for your 100 miler though then you could get something more casual for polo.

I think there's some coming with...
I'm finally considering some real pedals and shoes to help hop around (flats and straps ain't quite cutting it).
On a side note I have 100km ride in June and would want something that's pretty easy to swap from polo-roadie. I've seen a few people with 'custom' shoes. How's that done!?
Budget isn't too much of an issue, however I do want something durable and that looks quite nice.
As ever, thanks in advance for all your knowledge.
