Wanted: 52 cm bikes

A friend had her road bike stolen at the weekend.
She would like to buy a couple of bikes to replace it, one a town beater bike and another road bike.
Beater bike just needs to be simple and practical for locking up and not attracting attention.
Road bike, ideally something used but cared for, 52cm with a ladies geometry. Budget £500-600.

I was fairly happy with it, although it being my first road bike I have no comparison sense. I would say that given I work 12 hour days and have my first organized ride in less than a month, I am looking for something that is fairly ready to go, as opposed to something that would need a lot of work done to it, even if slightly more expensive. I am not going to use this much in the city (I have decided to get a cheap commuter bike) so no need to take that into consideration.
My price range is up to £600, everything included, ideally closer to £500 (or even lower if possible).
