  • Hi guys,

This is "wiener" speaking, I've changed my username because I didn't quite think it all through when I chose the last one, (it means Viennese in german but I didn't make the connection with the sausages at the time).

Anyhow, this is already a yearlong project.
Last March, I ordered a Cx frame from Victoire in time for the 2013 CX season, the frame was ready in May but because of other projects that got in the way this project kept being pushed and pushed and now is finally coming to completion, with time to spare for the 2014 season.

It all started with me contacting Julien for a custom frame, and this is what we discussed:

Columbus Life all round, outside routing and disc brakes

  • After a few weeks it already looked like this

  • Nice! Full length outer all the things though

  • that looks like serious business

  • wow, from drawing to finished frame in 27 minutes! I am already liking it.

  • why outside cable routing?

  • If you are running full length outers internal routing adds complexity for not a whole lot of benefit

  • The full length outers is only for the brakes,

I am using TRP HY/RD but who knows if the future brings full hydraulic...

It was also a question of going traditional CX style with outside routing.

Then it was time to choose the colour, and I went for the black clear coat, with pictures to follow.

  • Am dissapoint. Was hoping for pink like the BikeCAD :(

  • ^^ You can drill out the stops after the fact anyway. Looks like you have an outer running the whole length of the chainstay so it's close enough anyhoo

With disc brakes / CX running full length outer makes sense for both cables and future proofing for hydraulics

  • Beauty! Good job.

  • Yes, yes - very tasty.

  • Wow!

  • Keen to see this finished.

  • Fresh

  • Just before Julien shipped the frame this happened!

  • Oh, wow, that looks great.

  • Next up,

Was a seven month wait for the wheels,

Having also ordered the wheels through Victoire cycles, I asked for 28h Chris king r45 discs in pink and it took ages to get to France, about 5 months, and then it took
2 months more to get them spoked to ZTR iron cross rims and shipped to me.
That was the most frustrating part!!!

In the meantime I gathered the other parts,

    it came:

    Enve Cx Disc tapered fork,
Enve 120mm stem (great deal on ebay)
Masterpiece (also great deal on the local adds)
Jackbrown tyres (this will be used until the season starts).
    Iris King Cage
    Trp Hy/Rd brakes
    Shimano CX70 top pull mech
and to top it all off Force 22 groupset.

The team mechanic and I finished it yesterday and it is a beaut.
I still haven't taken proper pictures of it.

  • Looks beautiful.

How confident are you that the ENVE stem is genuine?

  • I met the bloke in person when I was in London, and it came in the original box that matches the forks box. So yeah, pretty confident.

But great deal means used in mint condition for half the price.

  • The packaging is certainly a very encouraging sign, yes.

Looking forward to seeing the whole bike together.

  • First crappy home shot, this bike is definitely not an indoors thing.

This was never going to a weight weenie but at 8.9kg I'm very satisfied for a Columbus Life frame with disc brakes.

  • P to the ORN.

  • this is almost like seeing double, but with discs! absolutely stunning!
