On a road bike. Be smooth on the brakes and knee out fo sho.
I often like to get my balls out too.
-
• #3
And remember to trail your hand on the ground.
-
• #4
Yeah on a road bike, descending on my fixed has much less technique involved. Just PEDAL.
-
• #5
Get down in the drops, lowers your centre of gravity. Also, plant your backside on the back of the saddle to help with traction. Inside pedal up, weight down on the outside pedal. Eyes where you want the bike to go, so look deep into corners not at the road just in front.
-
• #6
...also the weight that is going through the front, put through the hand on the outside of the turn.
-
• #7
Brake before corners, ride in wide, fast out.
Eat more. Get more aero. Pedal faster.
-
• #8
as long as you remember that brakes are death, and not to lean, you'll be fine
-
• #9
Brake on the straight. Look ahead of the corner. Get your weight forward. Don't be a wuss.
And remember - double wheel skids at 50 mph are lulz.
-
• #10
Remove brakes. Pad your knees. Put balaclava, make sure on the right side. Day before put mattress at every corner. Call all your friends to watch you. Eat well. Don't sleep too much. Wait a minute. Go!

Tailing a good pilot will help a lot.
A bit of mtb as well. This guy is fearless, down Ventoux in 21 min !
Mont Ventoux - Bédoin descent (Max. 131.8km/h) - YouTube
My favorite one is the reverse angle on wet tarmac in Bosnia. -

That could have been nasty...
Top speed 138km/h?
No.

Like this?

My road bike doesnt turn right at the moment. Or at least it will if you force it and dont mind the rear brake engaging. I cabled it in a hurry for turbo use. Then the Winter disappeared.
This was not a good set-up for a rainy descent a couple Fridays ago.
Jus sayin.

Just turn left 3 times. -

Just turn left 3 times.
Good Call.
I could install the powercordz inners and Outers on the workroom shelf. But aint nobody got time for that.
Did my 215km ride last Friday With it still in 'turbo trainer' mode. But the ferrule split on the rear brake cable, so the bars turn now. winning

I've developed an irrational fear of descending. I always feel as if my rear wheel is going to slip from under me. Not enjoying it at all at the moment.
-
• #22
try some mountain biking, it improves descending and after a while you get used to dealing with a little bit of rear wheel slip
-
• #23
Just corner slowly for a while.
I frequently smash descents. But then somedays I just dont feel it. No point in pushing it.
Worth checking Your rear tyre isnt over inflated.
While the increase in actual skipping over slight lumps and gravel is probably minimal over a few PSI. It doesnt feel minimal.

• #24
Don't lean
-
• #25
Losing your rear isnt much of a problem, just make sure you don't lose your front.
At this time of year there is no point pushing things, but by riding the brakes all the way through corners you're actually putting yourself in more danger than if you didn't brake at all.
I UTFS and nothing came up. Maybe a bit too Bike radar.
Any tips for descending? Mine seems to be improving from following people in races but is still pretty sketchy.
knee in, or knee out?
