• As the summer is fast approaching we are yet again getting snowed under with amazing stock that needs to be sold...

We are seeking a enthusiastic person who can help us do this. The primary focus of the role is to list our immense stock on our website and eBay, as well as handling packing and dispatching of orders. We would prefer someone who has a good understanding of how ebay selling works so is able to list items quickly and easily. This is primarily a web based selling role, however we are a bike shop not just an office, you will therefore be expected to have good customer skills enabling you to help assisting the public when they come into the shop.

A good knowledge of bicycle components old and new would be helpful. We stock items from the 50's to present day which need to be identified and listed. Obviously we know people have varying degree of knowledge on bicycles and parts, some knowledge is essential but we don't expect you to know everything. We certainly don't.

We are looking to get people in to have a chat about this position as soon as possible. If you think this is for you, please get in touch on: info@vintagebikecave.com. We are not super keen on CV's, just an email telling us a little bit about yourself and your experiences, with regards to previous work as well as your bicycle knowledge.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

  • rumour has it that this is an awful place to work

  • unless that is you enjoy being treated like a piece of shit

  • ^ pretty damning statements Pooface. Any facts or proof to back this up?

  • Yes, everyone who I have ever spoken to who worked there. Don't want to name names

  • ^^Agree with the above - I'd steer clear of this position

  • .....get's coat. As you were.

  • what's the rate of pay?

  • rumour has it that this is an awful place to work

I would be surprised - I've been up there a fair few times and there always seems to be a fairly decent vibe about the place.
I made enquiries about the job myself, but it turned out they couldn't afford me!

  • there always seems to be a fairly decent vibe about the place.

    It's a facade.

  • Yes, everyone who I have ever spoken to who worked there. Don't want to name names

Heard the same too, better off in my current job.

  • I made enquiries about the job myself, but it turned out they couldn't afford me!

    Maybe you're not worth it

  • I can assure you I am.

  • Thing I don't understand about this is, putting it on ebay's the hard part.

If you've got the know how to do it well, why aren't you going out and buying the bikes to do it youself? It's a pretty simple, mundane and very oft-repeated formula. Find cheap second hand bikes, strip, sell, profit.

Why get paid sweetfuckall to do it for someone else?

  • Well. That escalated quickly.

  • Just sayin'.

  • Trying to encourage my fellow rouleurs to have a bit of entrepreneurial spirit.

  • To go it alone, into the big bad world of Ebay commerce, negative feedback and travelling to Luton at 20.33 on a Sunday to grub off some old dude selling his rad vintage Evans for chicken feed.

  • But as you were. Sorry. Je m'excuse.

  • If you list stuff and it doesn't sell as well as the shop expected do they bollock you for it or just accept it was luck/bad luck that time?

  • Having done what uber gruber suggests for one summer whilst at uni, I would recommend it. I didn't make any more money than I would've done had I worked in a bar, but it was certainly a lot more fun.
