Threaded headset stems and swapping bars.

  • I have been thinking recently that it would be nice to have a different set of bars, so I can swap them out whenever I feel like a change, but these quill stems mean we have to remove all the tape and levers.

I was thinking about getting another stem and dedicating each stem to each bar, to make swapping quick and simple. Does anyone else do that too?

  • Yes.

For one of my bikes, I had a stem with risers, a stem with drops and a stem with bullhorns. One allen key and you're done. Even easier when you're brakeless.

If you got a hinged brake lever, it'd only be two things to undo though, so pretty easy still.

  • Or get a quill stem with a removable face plate, such as cinelli frog or profile h2o both these have made my life easier.

  • Yes but the bike I do it with haz a Brakless™ so it's a lot easier.

  • I have three stems for three different bars (risers, bulhorns and track drops) which I usually change depending on the occasion: risers for the city, bullhorns for long rides... And I must admit that I´m quite fed up of changing them time to time. In fact I´m selling all of them to get some proper compact bars that should be an all-in-one.
