BOA constrictor won't loosen grip - help

I can't UNDO the Boa laces on a pair of S-Works MTB shoes I bought 2nd hand.

Tightening is no problem but loosening them seems impossible.

I have 2 other pairs of S-Works shoes with Boa laces. The older one has red tab to you press to release and the newer one allows you to turn the Boa "dial" both ways.

I'm obviously missing something... HEEEEEELP :)

Have you tried pulling the dial outwards?

I'd love to think you put them on first and had to shower, brush you teeth and go to bed in them.

Thanks... I tried it before... but obviously didn't pull hard enough.

Itsabout.... you know it... didn't sleep in them... but it was a bit of a wrestle getting them off.

Talking of emergency services, the one time I've been in an ambulance the nice man offered to take my shoes off. He couldn't work out the ratchet system and tightened them further, and I have them pretty snug already.
Tried to explain again before deciding to just deal with it as he didn't seem to get it at all. That was fun!
