Good-looking frame!

Well I picked it up today... So ratty, but with Reynolds drop outs(!).
I started playing around with the parts I already have. Firstly, the Shimano cantis won't work, but I have some Frogglegs that do work. Just. The stem on there is going, it's way too long. The guy I bought it from had a set of Origin8 Gary bars and a 90mm stem, and that seemed to be okay reach wise, so I'll think I'll do that. Apparently the On One Midge bars don't have as much length in the drop, which might be an issue. Put the cranks up against the frame. Not sure what I'm going to do because the crank arms will hit the stays unless I get a pretty wide BB. I'm only running a single chainring, so I need to get a kind of decent chainline.
Things I need to buy:
New wider cartridge BB. Or new cranks.
New 26.6mm seat post
90mm stem
Bars
Cable hanger
Cables

Been thinking about this today. Not sure whether to "borrow" some parts off of the Cannondale Rack and use them (brake levers, X3 shifter, SRAM cranks and BB, X3 rear derailleur, 7 speed cassette, Flite saddle) and run it as a flat bar with the stem on it for the time being, or just wait and buy new parts. It also depends whether the SRAM cranks work with the frame.
I'm 50/50 on running it with drops vs. flat bar. I've just spent a bunch of time googling Bridgestone MB's and that sweet Yeti and ratty Trek Prolly posted and now I'm leaning towards a 1x7 with flat bars.

Fitted the SRAM cranks and BB with no issue (except the 52t hits the stays, but I'll swap that to 36t). Probably going to order a SRAM x4 shifter and rear derailleur and leave the other stuff on the Cannondale Rack.

Talking of drops, I've always liked these:
A monster cross style build would be rad:
But flat bars would be cool, seeing as you've got a CX whip. Have you thought about thumbies if you get flats?

Yeah, I saw a couple of them and thats what made me want to build a drop bar MTB, but as you said, I do have my CX bike, so it's kind of pointless putting drops on this. And probably impractical.
If I go the flat bar route, I'm going to get a SRAM x4 trigger shifter and the matching rear derailleur. I've been using x3 on the Cannondale Rack and really like it.

You got a CX bike, no reason why this couldn't be your future tourer.

Maybe. It does have three water bottle bosses.

Cheap flat bar and 26.6mm seat post ordered at my friends bike shop. Looks like this will be a flat bar rat MTB for the time being.

Bars, seat post and brake levers purchased today. I need to take the BB out and install it properly (with more grease and not hand tightened), put a 40t chain ring on and attach the cranks. Might try and get some pictures of it mocked up this weekend.

Nothing to report. Need to order some v-brakes in next week. I'm in the process of living at my sisters-in-laws house because our house is renovated, so I'm barely at home to do anything to bikes.

Tough times bro, at least you dont live somewhere with shit weather

I'm in the west of Australia and it rained on me yesterday for the first time in probably 4 months. Lasted about 5 minutes too...
Still, we do have to deal with 40degrees C on a regular basis...

Well on the upside, there aren't animals trying to kill me at every turn here

Brakes will be ordered this week, along with the trigger shifter and rear derailleur, so hopefully by the end of next week it will be complete.
We'll also be back at home because the renovations should be finished.

Are you sticking with sram?

Yeah, Sram x4 and Tektro V brakes.

Properly installed the BB and cranks on this tonight. Also installed the 40t chainring on the cranks and chucked some MTB flat pedals on. Putting the shifter and rear derailleur on hopefully Wednesday night and if all goes to plan I'll have the brakes, cables and chain on by the weekend.

Strong looks
So I'm picking up this ratty Mongoose Iboc this weekend as a base for a new build.
I'm also getting a set of wheels for it and possibly a few other parts. So far it's costing me a six pack of (decent beer, ~$30 AUD).
The plan is to build it up as a 1x7 or 1x8 with dirt drops (probably On One Midge bars). Once again this is gonna be a parts bin / cheap build like the Cannondale Rack because I'm saving for a custom Kumo CX frame.
I plan to keep the paint on the frame as is.
Parts I already have:
Shimano 600 cranks (with either a 46t or 39t), but I'm not sure if the matching BB will work because of the chain stays.
Shimano 600 cantis
Shimano 600 rear derailleur (will probably use this short cage one if the cassette is 11-28)
Brooks B-17 Team Pro (black)
Tektro drop bar brake levers (silver levers)
Shimano bar end shifter
Jet Black Alloy MTB pedals
