I've had two of the "good" halfords racks for two years now and they've worked perfectly. However, I'm now carrying a few friends to races and someone decently gave me two free roof racks to carry another two bikes... They're very cheap and don't have the wheel straps. So inevitable at 110km/h on the motorway my bike was released into the traffic behind. I was super lucky that a) it wasn't the other guys' bikes abd b) only damage was to my bars, pedals and my brand new Specialized Romin.
Anyway, the halfords bars are getting a bit old now and there's more sway than there used to be. So I'm thinking I should just sort the whole thing out if anyone is ever to trust me to bring their bike to a race again. What are the best "cheap" options? Are the versions that involve a simple clamp for the fork and holder for the wheel best?
