Tuesday night road ride

Posted on
  • we do a road ride from our bike shop in highbury every tuesday. we meet at 6 and leave at about 6.30. we normally do about 50-60 km. if you are interested in joining us let me know. riders should be able to keep a good pace for a couple of hours.

  • which shop is this? can you give a better estimation of pace - eg a couple of strava/garmin traces?

    cheers

  • Yes a little more info would be useful, are competent fixed ideas with brakes allowed to join in?

  • Indra, "competent" would rule you out!

  • the go from the red bike shop on st pauls road.as regards to pace i will try and put up some strava stuff tomorrow morn. we tend to average between 25 and 30 kpm but thats with red lights and traffic.

i would say you would probably struggle alot riding fixed unless you are a very strong rider.

here is last weeks ride. normally they will be a bit faster than this but we had very bad weater and two new guys on this ride.

  • fairly similar pace to when i rode fixed to Brighton last Saturday, but the weather was not too bad except a head wind. though no fucking way I could keep up with you descending at 50mph if were riding fixed

  • Same for me, while the average speed isn't a problem, descending I find it hard to get past around 38mph on a reasonable road gear.

  • are competent fixed ideas with brakes allowed to join in?

Indra, "competent" would rule you out!

I think you've both got the wrong idea. :)

  • I would suggest road bike only. we are organising a friday night fixed ride and ill keep you updated as that progresses

  • Howdy. Interested. What's the address? How big's the group normally?

  • Competent fixed ideas pedal furiously.

  • 232 st pauls road. we meet at the red bike shop. normally between 5 and 8 ppl but there is about 12 ppl in the group. not every one rides every week.

  • Cool. Will come and have a look see.

  • Sounds good this. Bit lacking in fitness and such this week I reckon.

  • hi, is tonight's route the same?

  • we have decided to go to richmond tonight. looking at a 55km ride today.

  • This days not fitting together very well. Will be along next week.

  • @barley - Have you considered taking in more of the lanes through Epping Forrest? They're a lot quieter, hillier and for the most part the road surface is smoother too.

  • yea i think we will have a bit more of a plan for next time we go to epping. next week in away so one of the other riders will be organising for regents park. but the following week i will be planning epping again. do you have some good suggestions??

  • Take a look at post 2 on this thread, specifically the Chingford route.

  • ^ That's the best place to start.

Also Lea Bridge Rd is, in my opinion, a better way to get out of town [but still not particularly nice].
