I fancy something to play music through in my garage. No electricity so battery please and could be Bluetooth or plug in.
Sorry MrSworld, hope you don't mind the interjection.

I've got one of these, good battery life and decent sound, is bluetooth or 3.5mm jack
Logitech Wireless Boombox: Amazon.co.uk: Audio & HiFi
EDIT: Looks like there's a new (cheaper) model available to replace this, looks nice, have no experience of it tho - but if its anything like mine it will be good
Logitech UE Mobile Boombox - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Hi-Fi & Speakers

I've got the Jawbone Jambox. The quality is ok, but nowhere near as loud as I expected it to be. Also, and I'm not sure if this is a problem with all Bluetooth speakers, but it suffers from background interference at a low volumes.
I've tried a few others since and the CA audio minx has been one of the best.

Used the new Bose one recently. It's fantastic. Great sound for something so small. Proper room filling.

I have the jam classic Bluetooth speaker. Cheap and cheerful does the job.

Roland Cube and a double ended jack. Fuck bluetooth for music - you've already had a chunk of the bandwidth chopped out by the CD/MP3 process.
Unless you're into Miley Cyrus or JLS in which case crack on...

Yes. I'd love to use FLAC on my mobile phone but just don't have the available memory...
Thanks for the response, very useful.

The Logitech UE looks interesting. Shorter battery life than the CA but the ability to use it as a handsfree speaker is a plus.

This is the best portable speaker I've used. http://minirigs.co.uk/ Great battery life and pretty loud with good bass for a portable.
It's 3.5mm input but at times I plug in one of these http://reviews.cnet.com/headsets/samsung-hs3000-bluetooth-headset/4505-13831_7-34846087.html to make it bluetooth (plus a dual ended 3.5mm jack so there's no cables).

Almost went for the Cambridge, heard it's the best and all for the money but bought logitech ue instead for half the price. Couldn't be happier!

Honestly though, I can't understand why anyone would use Bluetooth to stream music, except maybe for headphones when quality is less important than not having a wire. My car has Bluetooth availability to the stereo (Harmon Kardon so not low end) but the difference in quality when I plug in the iPhone is palpable.
Wasn't being dismissive for the sake of it, serious point.
I have a cube for choons when BBQing by the way, and for a lil box the sound (if mono) is awesome. Plus of courses it's my practice amp. -

^why use mp3s when you could use vinyl? Why use electrics when valves are better? Why use vinyl when you could get your string quartet to provide a much more sonorous sound?
-

I have a full 5.1 amplifier system to play my FLAC music. I want a decent speaker to stream my Google Play account when I'm away from that.
I don't want the hassle of leads, bluetooth and battery speakers fits. I would like to use Ogg Vorbis instead of MP3 but Google doesn't support that, however it sounds good enough for what I'd use it for.

Or alternatively, why sit two feet from your wireless speaker with your phones battery draining from the bluetooth power demands, listening to slightly worse quality music, as opposed to having a double ended jack plug connecting the two?

^^ so you can have a small speaker that can be put away/tidied up in the kitchen of your shared flat.

I've got the mini and I love it and think its amazing. It's obviously a bit pricey but it's so neat. It also works really well as a hands free speaker For the home. My mates got the big one and his seems to work ok when I've been over there.
My GF has one of those little cheap round speakers. Not Bluetooth, but great and cheap.

You really don't get my OP do you?
To remind you. I have a 5.1 system that does FLAC.
I want a bluetooth system that has a good sounding portable speaker.
So the criteria is: Bluetooth, portable bluetooth speaker, a system that does bluetooth, bluetooth, bluetooth and a bluetooth system.

Oh my dear Sworld, it is so tempting to be rude, but I won't be.
Yes, I do get your OP.
Yes, I do understand that you have a great HiFi system.
All I am trying to point out is that you can have a small, storable, portable, self amplified sytem to play your tunes on that doesn't use bluetooth that will sound better and cost you less.
I offered, purely as an example, the Roland Cube;
Which, at under £150, gives excellent reproduction, will run from a fistfull of AAs for a very long time indeed and has enough power to fill a decent sized flat or outside party with tunes.
Acheive the same with a bluetooth device then I congratulate you.
My ONLY point was that you sacrifice fidelity and pricetag for the non benefit of not having a short length of cable.
Enjoy whatever you decide to purchase. I hope you get many hours of listening pleasure.

Is that ^ Bluetooth?

Yeah. I'd like a bluetooth at £100 without wires...
And the Roland is a Guitar Amplifier. Not what I wanted and costs me more than £100.

Yamaha PDX-B11 , loud as you'll get for anything reasonably portable , looks good and is durable , good quality sound , I have the 30 pin and aux instead of bluetooth option but I'll have it at next months critical mass if you want a look at it

can I get a bluetoothray player to play my mp's over a hi-fi network with one of them rooters?
I recently got to use one of these over the holiday period.
Cambridge Audio Minx
I was impressed however has anyone else got a recommendation at this price level.
