Looks like a standard RIGI

It'd be good to see it with a wheel in it too. Interesting frame.

Great stuff, thanks dmczone, I appreciate the knowledge that there is on the forum. I will check the BB to see if it has the RIGI cutouts.
I will also endeavour to get a photo with a wheel in so those that are interested can marvel in the short wheel base :-)
Thanks again!

No forks? :(

Hi Scilly Suffolk, actually, yes (I think). They came with a set of chromed forks with an R on them which I thought were Rossin, but if the frame is actually a Moser branded RIGI, they might be the original forks. I had planned to offer the forks for GBP50, but if they actually belong to the frame, I will adjust the thread and offer them together. I will find out later this week. Thanks for jogging my memory!

Vertical dropouts? Hard to tell from the photos....looks great!

Looking at the photos in the link dmczone posted, the forks have "Rigi" on the crown, so you're initial thought may well be right.
Interestingly, the brochure refers to Moser's "interest and favor": so I wonder if there was a more formal connection between the two.

Hi Masi, I called my friend's dad and he confirmed that it is a Moser in as much as it came out of the Moser stable branded as such and has not been rebranded since he got it. I am guessing though as it is obviously a Rigi, that Moser had it built by Rigi and branded Moser either as a prototype or for a special purpose (a particular race for a particular rider, perhaps even himself), this is pure speculation on my part at this stage though. My friend's dad says he will ask Moser next time he sees him, but I don't know when that might be and I guess I can't really push for him to ring up and demand information about a bike he gave him 20 years or more ago :-) so I will check to see if it has the Rigi cutouts when I go down to the cantina on Thursday to take photos with the wheels in and see if I can also figure out the fork situation. Thanks for all the help with this one chaps, appreciate all the information your provided.

Hi Canaidan, yes, vertical drop outs!

So I found this link and it seems Rigi made some bikes for Moser in the late 70s

The good news is, the R branded forks are the same as in this photo, so it is complete, frame and forks. Would be asking GBP 320 posted with the forks (pictures to follow).
Cheers!

^ That's good news.
I wonder if the different fork crowns were used to distinguish between the different production runs?

My guess would be that the split seat tube is to create clearance for a slammed rear wheel. You could fit a wheel there to see, if it's for that.
Anyways, good luck with the sale! That's a very interesting frame.

I've added a photo of the rear triangle with a wheel in. Will attempt better photos, currently the images keep failing to upload from iPod. Anyway, gives an idea of the close clearances. Also the garish pink is growing on me. If you have a lampre jersey, you need this frame! :-)

Seems this is a 58 ctc and not 56 as I originally thought. Top tube is still 56.

There are now some decent (I hope), if not particularly artistic photos of the bike with wheels in.
Hugh4130, buy it for yourself for Christmas, put it on your credit card, that's what they're for. You'll then be able to cycle instead of eating/paying rent/providing for your family in the New Year. You owe it to yourself; you'll never see another one.
There's also a Lampre jersey on ebay that will go fabulously with it currently at £6.05, buy them both, Christmas sorted :-)

Just think this time last year I didn't own a road bike - now I have 2 moderns and when this baby is built up it will make classic number 8! Love riding collecting and building. Why didn't I discover this when I was a young man. So much better than all the cars and bikes I have raced for years.

Here is another one - claimed to be a 1978 / 79 prototype Rigi badged for Moser:
Another bike from my friend's stable of weird Moser experiments. This one is apparently for hill climbing or other such endeavours and is franky weird, but interesting.
58x56 with a hole in the seat tube (not from damage, see the pictures). Comes as seem with front mech; not sure if you could fashion something to fit if you don't want Campagnolo???
My friend says it is a Columbus SLX, but we then had a bel discorso over some coffee as I pointed out to him that Moser used Oria, to which he said they also sometimes used Columbus (and this is true, but I don't know how common it was), and then we started talking about other things and the matter didn't get resolved. In any case it is a high end tubing and if anyone has any information on the frame I would greatly appreciate the help. I will try and get the final word from my friend's dad this week some time.
I have no idea why there is a hole in the seat tube. I really don't.
In good condition and in the fetching classic Moser/Lampre horrifying pink (looks even more 80s in real life).
Looking for GBP320 posted from Italy to Europe/UK (original forks included, pictures to follow).
