Crank length for Derby track

Posted on
  • Hi dudes,

My mate has bought me a track crankset to swap for my old Campag crankset that he want as a collectors item.

The new on he's bought me is 170mm crank length, is this ok to use for racing on a 250 metre track rather than 165mm?

    Thanks dudes.

  • I doubt that they'll let you use anything longer than 165 on an indoor track, especially a brand spanking new one like Derby. Hopefully I'll be going up and using the Derby track from time to time when I visit my family.

theres sections on crank length on there. i'd probably stick to 165mm though.
looking forward to Derby opening, is it still scheduled for end of this year?

  • At the glasgow velodrome we have no issue with you using 170mm cranks if you want to.

It'd be a bit rich to ban the length of crank that the rider the place is named after uses.

We will have a word if we see you clipping your pedal though but generally the riders that are making the conscious descision to use 170mm cranks aren't the type to clip their pedals.
