  • Here for sale is my beloved George Longstaff Audax, custom built frame.

Almost a year on with this frame I've gone from only riding 200km to riding distances up to 1400km all around the UK. It's sad to see it go but I've come to realise that the geometry, it's steep seat tube angle in particular, doesn't suit me and it's time I moved on.

It's is really a work of art, built by George Longstaff himself in 1998 before he passed away in 2003 of a heart attack whilst piloting a tandem. As much chrome as you can shake a stick at!

Some info gained from Longstaff after getting in touch with them earlier this year:

Well as it was frame/fork only I cant add much more. Looks like the frame is in original paintwork, built from 531 designer select tubing, ordered in 1998 for a customer in Kilmarnock . It is a custom so seat angle a bit steep at 76` otherwise pretty normal frame and fork for us . If you want the tube spec,
    top is 0.8-0.5-0.8,
    seat single butt, 0.8-0.5,
    down tube 0.9-0.6-0.9
    Seat tube CTC 57cm
    Top tube 53cm
    Rear dropout spacing (OLN) 130mm

Tyre clearance for 28c tyres with mudguards, without mudguards easily more.

Stronglight headset and seat tube clamp bolt included. No Bottom Bracket included.

Here is the original sales thread from last year, i've pillaged the pictures from it until I dismantle the bike, but that is mainly because there is little difference from when I bought it bar a few more paint chips. Also the photography is much better!

If you have any particular questions or requests just drop me a message.

I'm asking for **£250 picked up from Stratford, East London. **
I also can post at cost of postage.

  • ooof, that is awesome

  • It's a lovely frame, but that geometry is weird. Definitely not for Mr (or Mrs) Average.

Whereabouts on the LEL was that last picture taken?

  • What saddle bag is that?

    Lovely frame GLWS.

  • Cheers fellas :)
It's a revelate designs saddlebag I borrowed off Edscoble on here, about time I bought one.

Will try and find out where that LEL pic was, I think it was just south of barnard castle but will check...
I know there's a relatively steep climb/descent just after it with a hairpin turn for extra fun

  • Feel like a bloody magician, it was just before barnard castle, bridge just next to the town of Whorlton

    Click for google maps

  • I remember that bridge due to the unfortunate town name of Whorlton (fnar).

    That was an awesome climb.

  • I'm getting all nostalgic about the ride now :)

For an extra £15 I can chuck in a Velo-Orange seat post which are just about the most laid back seat posts money can buy.

Using one of these will bring the top tube out to effectively ~56cm

  • I'm getting all nostalgic about the ride now :)

I wanna do it again, most comfortable ride I've ever done, bar the hot spot on my feet which is now sorted.

  • Now dismantled and cleaned her up, if you require any more photos info give me a shout

  • This frame is lovely. I wish I had a reason to buy it. Good price too.

  • This is an excellent frame to build into a high quality Audax bike, though would also be good for light touring, bikepacking etc etc, I suppose the point would be that it's pefectly suited for any type of long distance riding!

  • Cheers guys :)

  • This is rather lovely. [str]Un[/str]fortunately the TT is way too short for me.

  • On the contrary, the top tube likely to be correct as it's realistically 56cm, not 53.

  • Just out of interest, what are you going to replace it with?

  • What saddle bag is that?

    Lovely frame GLWS.

Not to Derail this topic and the sale of this lovely frame which is a bargain if it is your size, but further to the above I cannot speak highly enough of Revelate luggage - we bought 3 sets from the new UK dealer. No hesitation in changing sizes to fit our bikes and the fit, balance and performance were perfect. The bar bag is no theirs (its Altura) and next time I won't use it as I did not need the space on the last 10 day trip and any weight in there upsets the handling. Photo just after we crossed from Spain to France (Atlantic Coast).

  • On the contrary, the top tube likely to be correct as it's realistically 56cm, not 53.

Currently got a 59cm TT with relaxed ST angle, a layback seatpost and a reasonably long stem. I think 53 with a steep ST is probably a wee bit short ...

  • Just out of interest, what are you going to replace it with?

    Velo-Orange pass hunter :)

  • If this was about 4" larger I'd be gagging for it.

I love the idea of fast steel and the steep tube makes me think dirty thoughts.
Dirty thoughts about making "them" really earn that wheel-suck.

  • Dirty thoughts about making "them" really earn that wheel-suck.

    :')

  • price drop bump

  • Gorgeous! Bump!

  • I thought I'd offer it here first as I bought it on LFGSS,
although if no luck I'll close this thread and try it on some other forums.
