Circumnavigating ebay/paypal fees- Escrow services for Europe

There is an electronic item that I want from a seller based in Cadiz, Spain.

He has said he'll sell to me but he doesn't want to pay ebay/paypal fees. But it is too much money to go on blind faith (- especially given the complaints about ebay's new direction, with their seeming support of tire kicking, thieving buyers and lying sellers. Their feedback system is now next to useless.)

So my options are someone trustworthy there (I know nobody in Cadiz).

Insisting on Paypal for my protection.

Or using an escrow service. Thus far Transpact seems ok but I know little about them beyond what I've read online. Anyone here have any experience with them?

Any other solutions I've missed?

Go there and combine it with a holiday.

Unless you have paypal or credit card protection I would run a mile.
