  • My new frame arrived today. :)

  • Damn...

  • Jesus wept.

  • Beautiful.
What groupset are you gracing it with?

  • Bump. Moar pics and info pls Merak.

  • Nom

  • So nice

  • Ive been stockpiling bits. I've got a 6700 dark grey group set for it, I also managed to get a titanium seatpost which I'm looking forward to fitting.

Finishing kit is 3t rotundo bars, arx stem and an Aliante saddle. Oh and an EC70 Fork.

I'm also having some 38mm carbon clinchers built for it.

The most pressing issue is the headset. I'm having trouble justifying a Chris King so I think it to be a hope.

I'm resisting the urge to use coloured bits as it can look a bit pony, I think keeping it subtle will be the way to go.

I'll update as I get there.

  • This frame deserves a Chris King imho. Your justification right there.

  • I would really like a sotto voce black CK. If I do go for one Itll not be this month though. :(

Thanks for the kind comments BTW, it took me a long time to save for this bad boy.

  • That would be nice. Definitely worth it. Put the best on this bad boy, no compromises!

  • Looks superb. I await the completed bike with interest.

I'd add that CK headsets are definitely worth the extra, fit and forget.

  • Still have no idea how they make these so cheap. Looks ace! Look forward to seeing it built up.

Sorry to hijack thread but it might help you to decide on finishing kit.

  • I think the cane creek headsets are pretty great for the price, if you didn't want to splash out on CK

  • The 100 classic is their best looking headset imo and is meant to be on point with Cks. But is also getting close to the price of a CK and has less colour options. But I'd still choose a Cane Creek just 'cause it''s less blingy.

Also I'm 99% sure you've got to factor fitting from a qualified CK mechanic to retain the CK warranty. Most decent shops will be fine, but it's still an extra £25-35. Regardless of how "bomb-proof" they are everything can still have faults so the last thing you want is to spend all that money on one and not to be covered.

110, not 100. Comes with a 110-year warranty… And yeah, they are supposed to be top notch.

  • There are, in fact 2 models - the 100 and 110.

The 110 has pressed-in bearings of slightly higher quality and a different finish, plus more colour options.

I think the 100 may have been discontinued though

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but the 110 is only 6 pounds cheaper than a CK NoThreadset on Wiggle. I'd go for the CK, personally, just because.

  • been looking at the burls site , they seem reasonably priced for a custom frame
looking forward to the build pics & + 1 for the ck headset

  • Small update. I capitulated and plumped for a CK headset........., some buyers remorse involved as Im not sure its much better than Hope at nearly half the price.

Anyway, I fitted it to my frame, spending ages trying to line the top and bottom cups up OCD is a constant drain :/

The Easton fork I had bought for the bike previous to this which utilized an integrated headset means I didn't do my mafs right. Not accounting for the 20mm of stack added as its a standard headset Im using now, balls.

So I have a surplus carbon fork thats done 200 miles. Going to bite the bullet and keep on buying till I get this done.

A Chris King headset earlier today.

  • Right, more boxes. New fork (v light), wheels etc arrived exciting times!

Fitted the cups and the crown race for a mock up of the headset, wanted to ask about the CK headset. In the last pic you can see the upper assembly sits proud for want of a better word. Will this sit down under compression? Never had one of these before.

No spacers so work is halted until they turn up.

Im keen to get this done......

  • that gap is a bit too big.
but it might just be needing proper compression when you install the expander etc.

    Did you check this out?

  • Ha! Cheers for that, I shan't be spending money on a headset fitting though.

Will double check the exploded diagram, I'm sure the bits are in the right order though. I'll get to the bottom of it. :)
