  • 54's a bit old for stabilisers.

  • You can organise free training through TfL

  • "Can I get stabiliser for adult bikes?"

There's only one way to find out...

  • A female adult friend of mine has recently done that course and loved it. Got on really well and is cycling without any problems. No stabilisers required for adults (or kids either IMO). Just a good, patient trainer and plenty of open space with no traffic. Tennis is courts (minus nets) are where I taught my kids, and where my adult friend was taught.

  • Wouldn't the tennis players be a bit pissed off?

  • Also, men and women tend to be taught in the same manner.

... but she is free to choose that the instructor is also a women too.

  • Just put the bike in the kitchen and tell her to sit on it while she does the dishes. Job done.

  • Or offer to buy her some shoes when she can cycle round the periphery of the tennis court on her own?

  • The kids have turned The Local tennis court into unoffical football pitch. Its been like that way for years Cos we use to play football there when we where kids. I know pay money to play football!

  • I will let my sister know she can go on free course or pay for a instructor. I dont think its A good idea for me to teach her, I can still remember all the silly questions she kept asking me when I was teaching her to drive!

  • My sister dont wash dishes, not even her own. She leaves the dishes for my wife , daughter or mum to wash up. All my sister does in the kitchen is bake cake to take to work, but me and my daughter eat half of it as soon as she go to sleep!

  • At least she knows her place is in the kitchen with the other women, though, eh?

how is her driving now ?
did you prove to be a good driving instructor ? or did she take lessons with a professional instructor in the end ?

    Next up, unicycle ironing.

  • My sister got a Licence but never drove until after 5 years. She forgot how to drive!

it seems like you might be pissing in the wind here. I laughed though.

  • I taught my wife to ride a bicycle when she was in her 40s but she is 5'6" and so I suppose different rules apply.

  • how's her cooking clive ?

Stabilisers do the opposite of teaching how to ride a bike. They suck on every level! Even for kids they are a terrible idea. Steering and balancing on a bike is all about leaning, stabilisers force you not to lean and never to actually learn to ride!

I have taught many people to ride a bike, including my adult sister who was a massive scaredy cat about falling and getting injured. It is quite easy, but not with stabilisers!!

    So who does your dishes?

  • Also, what kind of budget does your sister have for a bike? She'll need a fairly small frame...
